To be quite honest, I’ve always had my suspicions about the effectiveness of lie detectors. The polygraph basically operates under the assumption that if a person doesn’t have a steady heart rate, or if that person is not calm, then they are telling a lie. But how do we know that an elevated heart rate isn’t being caused by something else? How do we know for sure that a person isn’t feeling super nervous while they’re telling the truth?

Check out this funny video from CollegeHumor’s Adam Ruins Everything series to see how Adam beats a lie detector test. This is how it’s done, people.
