So I’m super excited for the movies that are coming out in 2013. While some of them look so-so, a lot of them look amazing. These top 10 that I picked are definitely a few reasons to look forward to the new year. Whether you’re as big of a movie buff as myself or if you’re just looking for a few good date ideas, these picks are totally worth spending your money on. Watch the trailers, find out why we’re so excited for them, and start counting down the days until they’re released.

Gangster Squad, January 11

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, together again. Do I really need to say anything more? I’ve been waiting for this to be released for what feels like years. Plus, I’m a sucker for these gang movies – they’re so exciting.

Warm Bodies, February 1

This is a new take on zombie movies, and it looks seriously adorable. Starring Nicholas Hoult as a zombie who finally finds love, it’s sure to be adorable, funny and exciting all at once.

Identity Theft, February 8

Honestly, this movie looks totally silly and is probably going to be very stupid in a funny way, but I’m still going to see it… mainly because it stars Melissa McCarthy. If you loved Horrible Bosses, you’ll probably love this.

Oz The Great and Powerful, March 8

Since I love The Wizard Of Oz, Disney, James Franco and Mila Kunis, I’m pretty sure I’ll love this. It looks so whimsical and fun!

Admission, March 8

In my opinion, Paul Rudd and Tina Fey can do no wrong – so put them together and that probably makes an awesome movie, right? That’s what it looks like. The premise seems a little weird, but I’m down for it.

Spring Breakers, March 8

Get ready to see a completely different side of Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Benson – personally, I can’t wait. It’s about time these Hollywood angels starred in something a little more gritty! If this clip doesn’t get you excited, then all of the girl’s endless Instagram pictures should.

The Heat, April 5

Another movie starring Melissa McCarthy? Yes, please! And since Sandra Bullock is always amazing no matter what she’s doing, you know this one will be extra great. It’s about time we had a funny buddy cop movie starring two awesome ladies.

Iron Man 3, May 3

The third installment of Iron Man looks a little bit more dark and depressing than the other two – Iron Man seems to have lost his trademark sense of humor – but still seems worth seeing. As a comic book movie nerd, I’m super excited for this.

The Great Gatsby, May 10

The trailer for this movie is beautiful, so I’m expecting the film itself to be just as visually enjoyable. With stars like Leonardo Dicaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan, it seems like it can’t be anything but fabulous.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, November 22

The movie everyone is most excited to see hasn’t released a trailer yet, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be included on this list. I’ve yet to see the first film and I’m still excited for this. I promise I’ll catch myself up before then.

One Direction went back to their X Factor origins last night! | Source: YouTube

They kicked things off with a performance of “Live While We’re Young,” complete with jumping, thrusting, and balloons. First off, how dapper are they in their black, white, and red? Second, we love that they did their adorbs little rowboat dance from the video. Third, don’t they look more comfortable onstage than ever? And fourth, isn’t it sort of hilarious how Harry Styles just putting his hand up makes everyone scream over everyone else? (Not gonna lie, we totally shrieked on our couch here, so we’re not judging–just observing.)

They followed up with their new U.K. single, “Little Things,” and a much more understated but lovely showing. Flanked with minimal lighting and instrumentation, their voices shined. We especially loved Niall Horan serenading his boys. Too flippin’ cute. (For the record, their second U.S. single is actually going to be “Kiss You,” which is more on the upbeat side, similar to “Live While We’re Young,” “One Thing,” and “What Makes You Beautiful.”)

Of course, there was the requisite Pepsi product placement and a message from Drew Brees, who we also adore, but we really don’t think he can sing as well as the rest of the boys can. We also thoroughly enjoyed how Khloe Kardashian basically couldn’t stop touching and gushing about them. You’re married, Khloe–hands off our 1D!

On that note, isn’t it almost impossible to believe that One Direction didn’t win their season on X Factor U.K.? It doesn’t seem to matter to anyone–especially not to Simon Cowell, who sat with a satisfied smirk throughout the whole show. We wonder if Demi Lovato was as impressed as he was (especially with Nialler!)

The 1960s and 1970s were a special time for television. There was sound (yes, there were once silent films only), some shows were in color, but there was no technology. Shows had to rely on the smarts of writers to create real comedy and to pull off things as simple as fight scenes. Some of these clips are timelessly clever, while others a little ironically funny. I adore them for both reasons and hope you’ll get a kick out of ‘em!

Lupe Fiasco released a new video called “Bad Bitch” and I am crazy intrigued. I think what the video shows is a kind of “bitch trap” that is so easy to fall into. I would even go so far as to say most of us will fall into it, at one point or another, without realizing.

What I think Lupe does really well in the video is show how both girls AND guys get caught up in all this b-word confusion. It’s so easy for girls to want to be attractive to guys. We all want companionship, right? For many of us that can mean having a BF. That’s totally fine. But a lot of us get a little lost along the way because we see these images of women, being sexual, wearing a tiny bit of clothes, wearing a ton of makeup and we think, “Oh, that’s what guys want. That’s what I’m supposed to do! I really like him and I want him to like me so it wouldn’t be such a big deal if I make myself look this way!” The desire to be wanted doesn’t come from a negative place, but it gets turned into something negative.

That pretty girl, dancing and being sexual, is also being called a “bitch” by a man. That word coming from a man is usually not meant in positive terms. Especially when the gorgeous girl is only there to grind up on him–not to offer all those other things that she wants to offer a guy (like her amazing sense of humor, love of contemporary literature, or Dr. Who fan fiction). That girl is only showing that guy one side of her, her sexual side. That guy is only calling her one thing a “bitch”.

This is why guys get caught up in the “bitch trap” too. They see a video with that girl being called a “bitch” and they think, “Oh, well bitch isn’t really a nice word. That guy is calling that girl a bitch. I guess that’s how I’m supposed to treat girls who look like bitches because they are clearly only good for one thing: sex.”

It all basically sucks because everyone ends up confused. Girls think guys only want “bitches”, guys think girls who look a certain way (or worse, all women) are “bitches”. The result is that we miss out. Some girls miss out on who they really are and how they truly want to look because they want to find that special someone. Other girls get degraded and humiliated because they just want to look a certain way. Guys miss out because they end up thinking girls are sexual objects without any other qualities. Women end up getting the short end of the stick because we live in a male-dominated culture, where men have the power to withhold jobs, opportunities, and respect because they decided that we’re bitches.

The good news is that while it is easy to fall into the “bitch trap” it’s also not too hard to get out of it. Just think about what your motivation is. Am I doing this just to get that guy’s attention? And if I am, am I going to feel hurt or ashamed because of it? And if I feel that way is it because I feel that way or my peers are making me feel that way? Getting out of the bitch trap doesn’t mean you stop flirting, being sexual, or wearing crop tops–it means you think about your decisions, that you own them, and that you make them without being influenced by other people’s needs.

“Bitch” can mean a lot of nasty, hurtful things to women, which is why our feminist fore-mothers took the word back. Now tons of women use the term to empower themselves. “Yeah, I’m the baddest bitch, and what?!” “I’m the H.B.I.C.: Head Bitch In Charge!”

Yep, we can counteract the “bitch trap” by declaring we are “bitches”. All of this stuff can get super complicated and thinking about it only makes it more complicated!
