Why? Today I got to spend a very wonderful part of my day researching GIFs of Ryan Gosling, for work. For work, guys. I think it’s safe to say that I pretty much have the best job in all the world.

Why am I researching GIFs of Ryan Gosling? Well, besides the fact that everyone should try this at least once a hour week to get in a better mood, it’s Ryan’s birthday! This is a day to celebrate, ladies. Also, I just want to tell you all a little story: a few years ago, I was allowed by an amazing co-worker to go to the New York premiere of Ryan’s movie, Blue Valentine. At that premiere, I got to interview Ryan himself. I stood barely five feet away from him, with about 10 other reporters squished behind me trying to get as close to him as possible, and stared at him feeling literally starstruck. Ryan looked into my eyes (INTO MY EYES) and said, “You okay down there?” Inside, I died a little. I couldn’t even get words out except some kind of variation of, “ummmm sadkfjuskldfj”.

As amazingly perfect as this moment was, I know it could have been better. So, in celebration of Ryan’s birthday, here are 32 things I wish he would have said instead:

Today I heard some interesting news, and I just don’t know how to feel about it. So, obviously, I need to share with you guys. Here goes: according to GossipCop, Channing Tatum is reportedly People’s Sexiest Man Alive this year. Not Ryan Gosling… again. Channing Tatum.

I don’t know how to react. Should I be happy? I mean, Channing is pretty hot. His abs look wonderful and he’s always got this cute dumb-founded look on his face, like he doesn’t really know where he is or what he’s doing but he likes it. Should I be sad? After all, my number one hot guy/fake boyfriend Ryan Gosling was not chosen. And honestly, it hurts a little bit to not see his gorgeous face be given the title it deserves. Or should I be furious? Because, um, let me reiterate that Ryan was snubbed YET AGAIN. Don’t even get me started on last year’s Sexiest Man Alive, Bradley Cooper. Just don’t.

I mean, yeah, this hasn’t even been confirmed yet, so technically there’s still hope for Ryan. There is still hope. People might be pulling a major prank on us. Maybe they’re going to let us believe it’s Channing and then at the last minute they’re going to be like, “JK, it’s Ryan! Got you!”

Or maybe, like our pals over at The Frisky pointed out, Ryan got offered the title, but turned it down. I could see this being totally possible. He’s basically a real-life version of a superhero and he’s also very modest (trust me, I met him. No big deal. Just the greatest night of my life). I mean, he did save a woman from getting hit by a car and he also broke up a fight. It would totally make sense if he was too embarrassed to be named the Sexiest Man Alive. Maybe it’s just not Ryan’s style.

But seriously… I’m pretty much left conflicted here. If People decided not to go with Ryan, then I guess Channing is a good choice. Like I said before, he is pretty sexy, and that’s obviously a requirement. He also seems pretty in love with his wife Jenna Dewan, and I’m a sucker for romance. And he’s got some good dance moves… just watch Magic Mike or Step Up for proof. Or just watch them just because. Oh, and how can we forget that Channing was a male stripper before his acting days? I don’t know if it gets much more sexy than that.

Except, yes, I know that it does – in the form of Ryan Gosling. Damn you, People. Stop crushing my dreams and make Ryan your Sexiest Man Alive! I’m thinking of starting a Ryan Was Robbed chant. Who’s with me?!

Every time I think that there’s no possible way that I could love Ryan Gosling any more than I already do, he goes and does something that makes it possible. Or, in this case, he did something a really long time ago that’s just surfacing now, and it’s just more proof that he is the number one most amazing man ever (okay, fine, number 2 after my dad. Okay, FINE, my real life BF can be number 2. So Ryan’s third).

But seriously, you guys have to watch this. Canada AM, a CTV talk show in Canada, is celebrating it’s 40th anniversary. And that means they’ve released a bunch of seriously amazing old videos – like this one of a 12-year-old Ryan Gosling being interviewed just after he landed the role as a Disney Mouseketeer.

I cannot even handle this video. Just look at adorable pre-pubescent Ryan. He’s obviously always had the ability to charm the pants off of people – and he’s also always had his signature sly smile. All of that combined with his Canadian accent is too cute for words. I want to be the girlfriend of 12-year-old Ryan… and then stay his girlfriend. Forever.

But after watching this video, I have one majorly important question: why isn’t Ryan singing and/or dancing anymore? I mean, he’s hot enough as it is when he’s pining over the love of his life or brooding somewhere mysterious. But imagine what it would be like to see grown-up Ryan shaking his perfect butt and belting out a few tunes? I’ll tell you what it would be like: amazing.

In case you haven’t guessed it by now, tastycake is my super secret (well, not so secret anymore!) code word for cute guys.

So, if you’re at the mall with your girls and don’t want to be totally obvious, but want to tell your friends that you saw a super hot dude, you can just be like, “Hey Margo, did you see the tastycake at 6 o’clock?” Then she’ll know to casually look behind herself to see the vision that is hotness.

Gurl’s Winner: I’m going to have to go with American Idol on this one. Between the awesome judges and the amazing talent that graced the stage, it blew us away this year. Plus, I’ll never get tired of singing competitions.

 

Choice Male Artist

Nominees: Justin Bieber, Drake, Bruno Mars, Pitbull, Blake Shelton
Gurl’s Winner: Okay, I know some people disagree with this, but the Biebs should (and probably will) win. His new single “Boyfriend” showed off a much older side of him, and it was totally catchy. As much as you want to dislike him, you just can’t!

 

Choice Female Artist

Nominees: Adele, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Taylor Swift
Gurl’s Winner: All of these ladies are so incredible – how could anyone pick a winner for this?! In the end, I’ll have to go with Katy Perry. Girlfriend got divorced this year and handled it without any huge public drama. Plus, she’s released two new empowering songs no one can stop listening to. She’s awesome!

Nominees: Selena Gomez & The Scene, Gym Class Heroes, Lady Antebellum, LMFAO, The Wanted
Gurl’s Winner: Selena Gomez & The Scene. Just like her boyfriend, Selena’s music totally grew up this year, and it sounded great. Even through her super, mega-stardom, Selena has managed to stay grounded. She’s a total inspiration.

Gurl’s Winner: I love the fashion sense of all these ladies, but I’d give this one to Miley. Her fashion choices have been criticized endlessly, but I still don’t get why. Miley always looks great and isn’t afraid to take risks without going too crazy, no matter what people say about her.

Nominees: Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Kate Upton
Gurl’s Winner: Rihanna. Yes, some of her choices this year have been questionable (making song with Chris Brown, for one), but no one can deny this girl is on fire. She’s not afraid to be herself, and that’s what we love about her the most.

Nominees: Justin Bieber, Ryan Gosling, Liam Hemsworth, Robert Pattinson, Ian Somerhalder
Gurl’s Winner: I don’t know how it’s possible to pick one hottie out of this group, but I’d have to go with Ryan Gosling. His movies are amazing and everything he does is a hit. And, I mean, the dude’s like a real-life superhero – breaking up fights and saving girls from getting hit by cars? Come on now.

Gurl’s Winner: All of these nominees are hysterical, but I’d give this one to Kristen Wiig. I still can’t stop laughing at Bridesmaids, and I also still haven’t gotten over the fact that she’s leaving Saturday Night Live. There’s never a time she doesn’t make people laugh.

A ton of awesome movies came out this year, but was your favorite movie nominated for Best Picture at the 2012 Oscars?

Okay, I’ll admit it that I’ll be watching the 2012 Oscars mainly just to see what all my favorite actresses are wearing (and to catch a glimpse of Ryan Gosling!) but since the Academy Awards are really about recognizing the best, most awesome movies out there, I started wondering if any of my favorite movies were actually nominated for Best Picture at the 2012 Oscars.

Well, it turns out that Bridesmaids, Drive, and The Muppets–three of my favorite movies of last year–were left off the most important list, but there are still some pretty good choices on the final list of nominees.

The nominees for Best Picture are:
