id="description_1">
Create Meaningless Catchphrases
If two friends are in a heated debate and they're demanding you back them up, drop a meaningless catchphrase and walk away. Say, "It's not about pro-life or pro-choice, it's about pro-love and pro-voice!" By the time they realize they have no idea what you're talking about you'll have been long gone. <a

Everyone will think you know what actually IS historically accurate. <a

An easy way to avoid taking a stance is to sternly ask a question. "Yeah that's a good point, but what I want to know is what we're going to do about foreign policy?" or "Yeah, I could see that, but what are we going to do about the environment?" her form of revenge against dudes who have hurt her.

Which is why I was kind of surprised to hear that there is one thing out there that Taylor refuses to talk about, and that’s politics. You would think that a celeb as open as Taylor would be game for mouthing off on who she’s going to vote for. In fact, I would kind of expect the girl to write a song about the candidate she’s not so fond of.

But apparently, I’m wrong. When asked about the upcoming presidential election in a recent interview with Time, Taylor said, “I follow it, and I try to keep myself as educated and informed as possible. But I don’t talk about politics because it might influence other people. And I don’t think that I know enough yet in life to be telling people who to vote for.”

This is pretty interesting to me, because basically, Taylor is willing to blab about all of her exes, but she’s not willing to admit who she’s going to vote for. Here’s the thing: celebs totally deserve to have some privacy in their lives and they don’t have an obligation to share every thought they’ve ever had with us. But at the same time, stars also have the opportunity to use their superstar power for good by helping to make things happen.

Imagine if she talked about more then just relationships? | Source: WENN.com

In other words, if Taylor were to start talking politics, she would be helping to inform her fans about what’s going on with the election. Taylor has thousands of young fans out there who hang on her every word. Instead of just <del>whining</del> singing about how John Mayer dumped her, she could be discussing more serious issues that are really important right not. Except she’s not. Maybe it’s because she’s dating a Kennedy, and her views clash with his family? Or maybe it’s because, as Zimbio.com pointed out, her country fan base is generally conservative, and endorsing a specific candidate could be bad for her record sales.

At the same time, I can understand why Taylor is hesitant to admit who she’s voting for. Listen, I get it – I usually feel the same way as her. Talking about politics is one of my least favorite things to do ever, mainly because I don’t feel like I know enough about it to discuss it fully, but also because it’s an extremely touchy subject. Plenty of celebrities come under fire once they announce which candidate they’re standing by, especially if it’s not the most popular opinion, and I can see why someone like Taylor Swift (who is all about sparkles and sunshine and happiness) wouldn’t want to get involved with that.

However, I do still feel like Taylor could make a big impact on a cause she cares about if she wanted to. I think it’s great when celebrities try to make things happen with their influence and I think it would be really great if Taylor could get her young fans out there to start thinking about politics.

What do you think about Taylor’s comment? Should she talk about politics? Do you care who she’s voting for? Do you think celebs should get involved in politics? <a

He doesn’t allow his religious values to interfere with how ANY american women can rule their own body. Every woman should have the choice of what they can do with their body, that should not be taken away from them because of someone’s religious idea of life.

Amanda Jimenez: Biden hit the nail on the head. If we MUST have a middle aged man representing our health rights, I would love for it to be Joe Biden. I love gay, bi, etc. people but I don’t think they should have a “marriage” I think it should be a partnership, but does that mean I ruin someone’s wedding? No. I don’t believe that someone’s right to control their own body should be taken away. These males can have sex with whatever, whenever and only have to worry about STDs. They don’t have to worry about being shamed for having a child out of wedlock or not knowing the father. They can walk away from it all but we can’t. We should be the ones making the decisions about our bodies. When will women finally be equal to men? When will we have total control over our destinies like they do? When can we make the same amount for the same jobs? Where does it start? At home. In your own skin. If we let them decide what we can and cannot do to our bodies, we might as well start getting fitted for orange jumpsuits and shackles. No one wants to be imprisoned in their own bodies.

Did you tune into the VP Debate? Let us know in the made a huge move. They signed a bill that bans the use of “gay repair” therapies on minors. These kinds of therapies, which are not scientific at all, are used to convert LGBT people into heterosexuals.

Here’s the thing though: whatever your beliefs are about sexual orientation, it’s wrong to coerce a young person into becoming someone they’re not sure they want to be. You wouldn’t let your eight-year-old daughter get a boob job, right? You’d want to make sure she was old enough to understand her decision first. You would want her to know that she shouldn’t be so concerned with her body image because it is beautiful just the way it is. But if, maybe, when she got older she still felt the same way you would support her decision because you want her to be happy more than anything.

Well, it’s the same logic. Convincing a young person that they need to change drastically can be emotionally damaging. Most teens want to be accepted, respected, and understood. If you start chipping away at a young person’s self-esteem it becomes really hard to recover.

According to California governor Jerry Brown, “This bill bans non-scientific ‘therapies’ that have driven young people to depression and suicide. These practices have no basis in science or medicine and they will now be relegated to the dustbin of quackery.”

These programs pretend they have young peoples’ best interest in mind when really they’re only interested in shaming them for their feelings—feelings that these teens probably find confusing and just want some help dealing with. The problem still is that many of these places are where homophobes, not professional therapists, use bullying tactics to convince members of the LGBT community that who they are is morally wrong and deluding them into thinking they can change. And the law only forbids licensed therapists from trying to conduct “gay repair.” Still, it’s a step in the right direction, and this is a huge win for the LGBT community! YAY!

What do you think about “gay repair” therapy? Let us know in the National Voter Registration Day. We hope that all of you 18+ girls are planning on voting this coming election. Voting is a great privilege, so please don’t take it for granted. There are lots of countries where citizens don’t get to vote or women aren’t allowed. Take advantage of the opportunity to make the world come close to how you envision your utopia!

No matter what you believe in, this is how your voice can be heard. If you have strong beliefs on abortion, birth control, LGBT rights, universal health care, foreign policy, medicare, taxes, the economy or student loans, who wins this election will prove to be truly important. All of these things affect you as an individual.

Think of it this way, not voting is the same as voting except you have less of a say.

It’s OK if the prospect of voting feels overwhelming or like you don’t know enough about politics to have a strong opinion. Think about the things going on in your life and try to find one or two issues that are significant to you, and vote based on that.

If someone you know is seriously ill, then maybe vote based on which candidate has the best plan for healthcare. If you or a friend is bullied for being queer, vote for who is going to help make the country better for the LGBT community. If you believe life starts after conception vote based on that. It’s important to connect your experiences with the politicians who can best serve you.

There is no right or wrong answer. This is all about your values. Don’t even feel pressured to tell anyone who you’re planning to vote for.

This is a great website where answering a few questions determines which candidates align most with your beliefs and by what percent. You can check out my results <a

So get out and vote this November, 6th!

Do you plan on voting this election? Let us know in the Queerty, Chick-Fil-A has begun working with The Civil Rights Agenda, an advocacy group to create a more tolerant company.

You may remember that a few months ago Chick-Fil-A came under harsh scrutiny when the founder and owner revealed that he opposed same-sex marriage and had been giving money to anti-gay organizations and hate groups.

Official memos from The Civil Rights Agenda say, “In meetings the company executives clarified that they will no longer give to anti-gay organizations, such as Focus on the Family and the National Organization for Marriage. Additionally, they have sent an internal memo to franchisees and stakeholders that stated that, as a company, they will ‘treat every person with honor, dignity and respect-regardless of their beliefs, race, creed, sexual orientation and gender,’ and that their ‘intent is not to engage in political or social debates.’”

We’re glad that all the boycotts, protests and media coverage was able to convince Chick-Fil-A to rethink some of its decisions. It’s one thing to have religious values and opinions, it’s another to try and punish people for being well, just who they are. By donating money to anti-gay organizations they were helping to prevent the LGBT community both in the U.S. and in other countries from having the basic human rights they’re entitled to.

I doubt the people in charge of Chick-Fil-A have all of a sudden decided that same-sex marriage is OK, and while I don’t agree with their views, I have to commend them for being willing to cast their opinions aside and draw the line between having a belief and hurting someone else just because they believe in something different. It must have been a really difficult decision to make, I am sure they had to swallow a lot of pride, but it’s truly fantastic that they changed their tune.

Look at that, people with opposing views can make a difference when they join together to create a better world for everyone in it.

Do you think Chick-Fil-A made the right decision? class="wp-caption-text">Credit: WENN.com

Michelle Obama is giving her speech at the Democratic National Convention today and we’re stoked because we know it has the potential to change people’s minds. A recent study discovered that seeing strong females on television made men less sexist compared to when they watched women behave submissively and weak. Think Buffy the Vampire Slayer versus Ariel from the Little Mermaid (She gave up her voice for a dude!).

Both men and women were in the study, but it was really the guys who were affected by seeing different kinds of women. The men were asked questions like, “A woman should not expect to go to exactly the same places or to have quite the same freedom of action of a man,” and, “The intellectual leadership of a community should be largely in the hands of men.” When they saw negative images of women, guys were more likely to agree with these very sexist statements, but when they saw positive images of women they were more likely to reconsider or disagree with these statements.

Women, of course, no matter what they saw knew these sexist ideals are bull.

The article says, “In general, men responded more positively to shows with powerful women. The researchers suggest this may be because ‘depictions of women reawaken negative stereotypes that some men hold about women, whereas positive depictions challenge these stereotypes.’” Makes sense. If everyone is saying girls are pathetic, stupid, and helpless and guys never see them act differently why should they believe girls are actually strong, intelligent, and independent?

So what does this have to do with First Lady Michelle Obama? Well, she encompasses some majorly good qualities of women. If you’ve been following politics at all there are some crazy things happening with women’s rights. States are banning abortions, denying birth control unless you plan on using it for something other than birth control (yes, this is actually true), trying to shut down Planned Parenthood and spreading incorrect information about what will happen if you get an abortion. All of these debates have purposefully excluded women from the conversation. Yep, a bunch of men talking about what women should do with their bodies.

Though we can’t do much to change these politicians’ minds, maybe Michelle Obama (and Buffy) can do something to change the minds of the guys watching. No matter what you believe in, I think we can all agree that women have the right to make their own decisions and should have a say in the decisions made about their bodies.

We can only hope that Michelle Obama can help change the male perception of what it means to be a women. She is more than just the President’s wife. She went to Princeton and Harvard Law School, she was assistant to the Mayor of Chicago, served as Dean at the University of Chicago and now leads the White House’s initiative to end childhood obesity. It’s strong women like her that challenge negative female stereotypes and it’s strong girls like YOU that will finally put those tired, sexist notions to rest.

Do you think strong girls on television can change guy’s minds?
