I’m not going to lie, I’m not the best person to ask about how to be outgoing. In kindergarten, I talked so little that my teacher gently suggested to my mom that I may be in need of special education. In high school, I won Most Shy my senior year. Now, after college, I feel like I’ve finally figured out how to be a teensy bit more outgoing.

So I can totally understand when this reader asks: How can I be more outgoing? Being friendly and talkative can be harder than you think! Here at Gurl, we wanted to see what kind of tips you guys would give a girl looking to be a little more outgoing. Although I have gotten a lot better with my shyness, I feel like it’s a struggle that keeps me from doing what I really want to do. I think in order to fight shyness, you can’t be scared of doing something wrong, people hating you, etc. Until this year, I was really shy to the point of being almost antisocial. But then I stopped caring about everything and was confident in myself. That probably made me be able to be myself in public. I guess try confidence and not being scared. When you identify yourself as someone who is shy and quiet and boring, you’ll pretty much go out of your way to make yourself that way. Your body language will scream it! So think of yourself as the person that you are when you’re with friends. It doesn’t sound like you doubt that you’re funny and playful when you’re with them.

These girls hit the nail on the head – I couldn’t have said it better myself. Feeling shy stems from some sort of insecurity, so the best way to become more outgoing is to gain a little confidence. Don’t think of yourself as the quiet girl – think of yourself as the awesome girl you are. And don’t worry about what anyone else thinks of you. Always be yourself and let your true personality shine through.

And keep in mind that there’s nothing wrong with being a little quiet. We can’t all be social butterflies or this world would be a very loud and complicated place. If you don’t always want to put yourself out there, you don’t have to – but it’s important to give it a shot sometimes.

If you’re anything like me you love taking those goofy personality quizzes. (You know like all the ones we have on Gurl!) It’s fun and silly to match up some of your basic traits with a pet, cartoon character, or underwear and I am always curious to know what results other people get–especially celebs. We have no way of knowing what our favorite stars are really like because we only get tiny glimpses from interviews and appearances. But I couldn’t help but wonder, if celebs were desserts which would they be? After all, being a celebrity has its downsides, but overall it’s probably pretty sweet.

Does anyone but Nicki, with her split personalities, encompass the idea of a Sour Patch Kid? First they’re sour, then they’re sweet. Kind of like Nicki, Harajuku Barbie and Roman Zolanksi–her alter egos who can turn from bubbly to maniacal with the drop of a beat.

Katy Kat is probably the Candy Queen, but candy buttons have a simplicity to them that makes them impossible to stop eating. Just like Katy herself, they come in bold, bright colors, but once you dig deeper they’re all sugar. Totally sweet.

Like Miley’s new haircut, they’re only in for one season. Just kidding. Marshmallow Peeps and Miley are one in the same because they are both so versatile. Ever put a peep in hot chocolate? Most people don’t know this about Rhi-Rhi, but according to her brother she was an A student, extremely disciplined and a total dork when it came to UFOs?! Her younger bro said, “She is very self-motivated so Mum didn’t have to push her to do homework. She had a lot of discipline. We only went to the beach on Sundays. We used to spend all weekend watching movies and talking about UFOs, looking out for them. Ri really believes there are UFOs.” Sounds like a total nerd to me. (In the best way.)

Let’s face it, Kim’s life is sweet, a little too sweet… Kind of a like the never ending sugary layers of a s’mores. (Only good once and a while and in moderation!) Anyone who has seen her show knows she can be a bit of a princess. Growing up with every wish at your command can remove you from reality. Just this week she compared getting married on TV to a young girl’s cancer diagnosis. “I spoke to a girl today who had cancer and we were talking about how this is such a hard thing for her, but it taught her a big lesson on who her friends are and so much about life. She’s 18. And I was like, that’s how I feel,” Kim said. Yikes. Underneath it all, I think she is your average girl who wants the job, life partner and maybe even some kids. She’s classic, like a glass of milk.

When I was a kid there was always something really grownup about licorice. Maybe it’s because only the grownups I knew really liked it. There was something sophisticated about it, a flavor that felt a little more wise, a little more classic.
