Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth learned the hard way to keep their personal life private. It’s called your “private life” for a reason! | Source: WENN

Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus have had their relationship in the headlines for months now. That’s in part because when their relationship was going really well, Miley had no problem making her private life public: She posted a ton of photos together, gushed about Liam in interviews and generally invited people in.

The problem with that is, whether or not you’re a celeb, when you make your private life public–even if it’s just by changing your relationship status on Facebook or something–people feel entitled to know every detail about it. And that’s when gossip starts.

In a new interview, Miley explained why she’s not so chatty about her relationship with Liam anymore, despite the massive rumor mill around whether or not they’ll get married. “We have a house together and dogs,” Cyrus told the mag. “It just seems right to be wearing this ring and to be committed. But we keep our relationship low-key and don’t talk about it any more.”

Miley also gave some good advice about putting your personal life online: ”We were too nice to the world and gave them too much insight–into my life and my puppies and my house–and I just don’t feel they get that privilege anymore. Like on my Twitter, I’m much more . . . not conservative, but you don’t see a picture of my dogs. You don’t get that personal stuff any more.”

Smart move, Miley! Of course, we don’t think anyone’s gossiping about her rescue dogs or that people would start rumors based on photos of your new hamster or anything, but think about it: When you’re dating a guy and you gush to everyone you know about it, what happens when your relationship hits a rocky patch? Everyone feels like they knew about it and feels the need to gossip at that point. And that can make bad situations a lot worse. Remember when Liam was rumored to cheat on Miley with January Jones?

That’s gotta hurt, but imagine having it plastered across magazines and TV all the time. That probably won’t happen to most of us–but if you’re subtweeting and posting vague, angsty Facebook statuses about your relationship, chances are people are still snickering and speculating about it.

And that becomes dangerous, because when word spreads around, eventually it gets back to you and your guy. And if you’re truly having problems, it can make them a lot worse when trust issues are involved–and if you’re genuinely okay with one another, it can potentially create drama that didn’t even exist before. And the more you blab, even about seemingly harmless stuff, the more uncomfortable your partner may feel and the less likely they may be to confide in you.

That’s not to say you can’t be proud of your relationship and want people to know you’re happy with someone awesome–and goodness knows you’re a bragging right to any dude lucky enough to land you! But you might just want to think twice about how public you make your romance, especially online. Even if it’s as simple as making a special list of specific friends who can see your tagged couple-y photos or refraining from tweeting when you’re in a fight, the steps you take to keep your personal life personal and your private life private will pay off–especially if you wind up ending the relationship at some point. (Who wants to deal with a broken heart and a bunch of Facebook comments on your relationship status change? Ugh!

Plus, isn’t it sort of fun to have some stuff that’s just between you and your dude? It’s a way to bond!

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have been rocked by a cheating scandal. Rumor has it that Liam got cozy with January Jones at a 2013 Oscars party while Miley and her mom went to a party benefiting the Elton John AIDS Foundation elsewhere. Liam was spotted leaving the party with January and hitching a ride with her to wherever they went afterward, and some sources even say that they smooched. It could very well be nothing–but once gossip and rumors start to fly, it’s hard for it to die down.

We imagine Miley is pretty pissed about all this, and she has every right to be. Here’s how to handle dealing with rumors of a cheating scandal of your own.

If there are rumors you cheated on your boyfriend:
These are especially annoying because you know whether you did or didn’t, and it’s frustrating if people don’t believe you when you know for a fact that you’re right. Poor Miley Cyrus already was accused of cheating on Liam Hemsworth with Ed Westwick a few weeks ago by Perez Hilton. She adamantly denied the allegations and called that bottomfeeder Perez out directly on spreading lies. This is a pretty savvy move: If you know the source of the scandal rumors, confront that person directly in a polite way. Just be like, “Hey, I heard you said I cheated on Josh, and that stings. Why would you say that?” Chances are the rumormonger will be so taken off guard that they’ll apologize–and keep their mouths shut for a while.

These also suck because they can cast doubt on your guy and make it harder for him to trust you (unless the rumors are totally bogus and you can both prove it–like if the guy you were supposedly seen with was your brother or something dumb like that). You may want to give your guy a little extra TLC to assure him that you’re into him and him alone.

If there are rumors that your boyfriend cheated on you:

These are tough, because unless you’re literally with your guy 24/7 or have a tracking device on him like you’d have on your pet, you can’t really know for sure what happened. Your best bet? Don’t comment on any stories you may hear. If anyone asks, just be like, “Oh. Cute shoes!” or anything else to change the subject. Then hear your guy out in private. Nothing good ever came from airing dirty laundry in public–especially if you’re not sure exactly how dirty the laundry is.

In situations like this one where there may not evidence beyond he-said-she-said nonsense, go with your gut and your boyfriend’s history: Did he have a player rep before he met you? Has he done anything shady that you know of before this? If not, chalk it up to jealousy and try your best to move on. If your instinct tells you something is up, though, you may have to ring the alarm.

When it doubt:
Keep quiet. The less dramatic you get about the rumors, the more a chance that they’ll die down on their own once everyone else has a new scandal to talk about!

In a recent interview with E! News, Miley said that she doesn’t miss having long tresses, saying “I could never see myself having long, long hair again.” She even said that Liam loves her short ‘do!

Confession: I love cutting my hair. LOVE IT. It’s such a rush. While Miley’s guy may love her short hair, I unfortunately have the opposite experience with some of the dudes in my life.

I’ve been growing out my hair for a while now, and over the past couple weeks my friends and family have been making comments about how nice it is. My response is always, “Meh, I kind of want to cut it all off.” Watching Anne Hathaway win a million awards lately has also reminded me how much I want a pixie cut.

I’ve been saying I want to cut off my hair for a longggggg time. Whenever I start talking about cutting my hair (which I do often), some of my guy friends always look very nervous and hesitant. They tell me that my hair looks good long, and I should keep it long.

Okay, these guys never yell out “You’ll look awful with long hair!” or are outright mean, but I can tell they’re a little nervous about how my daring haircut would turn out. These reactions make me start second guessing my decision to cut all my hair off.

I mean… it would be pretty drastic (especially because I’ve been growing my hair out for a while now). Even though I’ve had short hair before, it’s always been about bob length that I could pull it back in some fashion. While it’s not like it’s 100% my guy friends’ hesitation that is keeping me from trying out a new look, it does make my own concerns stand out more.

I mean, I am pretty lazy with my hair care, so would I be good about short hair upkeep? Can my face shape pull off short hair? How do you even know what shape your face is besides “face”? Things to consider!

When I told my cousin that I wanted to cut my hair off, but it made some of my guy friends nervous, she just said, “You need to be a Jo March and just do it!” Need some backstory? In Little Women, one of our favorite books, the awesome Jo chops off her hair and sells it to help her family. Okay, so my haircut wouldn’t be for such noble reasons, but that same fearlessness of doing something totally unique and different is a good thing to embrace.

When Miley first cut her hair, it got people talking (even you guys!), but she never seemed to let it get to her. I think I need to take that same attitude and just go through with my own hair dreams despite what anyone else says. I don’t know if I could really pull of the platinum blonde like Miley, but I so badly want to copy her messy style short hair.

I just think it’s so cool that Miley’s comfortable just doing what she wants to do and not being so caught up in what other people think. So girls, should I take the plunge and cut my hair short? I think if I decide to finally go through with a drastic hair cut, I would do it once the spring rolls around in a couple months, so until then, I need help to build my confidence!

Taylor Swift dating 13 guys in three years seems farfetched–and certainly doesn’t make her a slut. | Source: WENN

Taylor Swift has had a tumultuous and often public love life, and now she’s starting to get some unwarranted heat for it. A certain entertainment news correspondent tried to slut shame Taylor Swift over Twitter recently, and while we won’t validate this guy by linking you to his post or telling you who he is, we’ll sum it up: He compared Miley Cyrus‘ somewhat rebellious, loose reputation with Taylor Swift’s wholesome, All-American girl through their love lives. He pointed out that Miley’s been dating and is now engaged to the same guy for three years (the gorgeous Liam Hemsworth). He then pointed out that the Taylor Swift dating life that she’s so notorious for: a rumored 13 guys in the same three years.

Here’s why that’s a problem.

First of all, it’s no one’s business who anyone else has sex with. But since he’s making every effort to make it his business, we should point out that Taylor Swift probably hasn’t actually dated every single guy she’s been linked to in the press–where would she find the time? And even if Taylor Swift dated these dudes, that doesn’t mean she was sleeping with them (not that it would make a difference either way).

Of course, this all comes with a bit of irony. Taylor Swift herself was rumored to be slut shaming actress Camilla Belle in her lyrics to “Better Than Revenge,” rumored to be about ex Joe Jonas. She sings, “She’s an actress / But she’s better known for the things that she does on the mattress.” Not nice, Swifty! Hopefully she knows better now about how damaging that attitude is. Slut shaming in general is a way to keep women down–and when women do it to one another, it stunts our progress and growth twice as much. It’s just as bad as imaginary celeb feuds.

Having sex doesn’t make someone a slut, no matter how often she has it nor with however many lucky guys she as sex with. The only thing that creates a slut is a misogynist attitude and unwarranted judgment from others. Period.

The fact is, Taylor Swift, Camilla Belle, and Miley Cyrus are all adults and their sex lives are their own business. As long as they’re all happy, safe, and consenting, who cares what they’re doing and who they’re doing it with?

Okay, maybe Harry Styles cares. But that should really be it.
