Very, very little. I’m sort of surprised I am able to string together sentences and keep my eyes open. Sigh, I guess I shouldn’t have hit that snooze button so many times.

My sleepiness got me thinking – when it comes down to sleep or a hookup, which wins? Well, I was able to answer this in a matter of .3 seconds… SLEEP! Sleep will always win in my book. Why you may ask? Well here are ten reasons that I think sleeping by myself is better than hooking up with someone.

You don’t need to shower

If you’re going to have someone super close to you, it’s common courtesy to shower. But beds are not “someones,” so when I want to sleep, I don’t have to shower. Since I hate showering, that is a huge plus.

You can wear whatever you want 

While I usually try to dress up for somebody I like, when it comes to my bed, we’re on pretty casual terms. I can wear whatever I want to sleep and I prefer that low-pressure environment.

Spontaneity

Even a pretty spontaneous hookup requires some planning – like you both need to be in the same place. Sleep? I slept on the train this morning so I really can just do that whenever and wherever I want.

No awkward conversation

Ugh, those pre and post hookup conversations where you don’t know what to say, amirite? Well, beds don’t talk. I can just get right to sleeping, no awkward pre-convo needed.

Dreams are cool

Yes, during a hookup you can fantasize, but that requires active thinking. I prefer the idea of just closing my eyes and my brain plays a movie for me about the most random topics ever. It’s unpredictable and fun and requires no effort on my part.

Without sleep… LOOK OUT

Apparently women are grumpier than guys in the morning. And if I’m in a bad mood because a hookup interferes with my sleep schedule, guess who gets to hear all my whining? See, I’m looking out for his benefit!

You have freedom to sprawl

More than one person in a bed means less bed space. Less bed space means I am left uncomfortable. Why don’t we just skip all that and let me be totally comfortable falling asleep alone.

No awkward cuddling

Going along with bed space, a hookup can sometimes be a whole bunch of awkward tangles. Know what is instead always comfortable when it comes to cuddle? Cozying with a stuffed animal while going to sleep. Later, hookup buddy.

It’s all about me

With a hookup, there’s another person to think about. With sleep, I am in total control. It’s a completely me activity that benefits nobody besides me. I like that.

Sleep is loyal

Hookups may come and go, but sleep will always be there, every single day. I want to honor that kind of commitment which is why sleep ultimately wins.

Set The Mood

Set an environment that really captures the spirit of "dirty." Maybe some old laundry strewn about, a few old dinner plates - if you really want to go big, a bag of garbage that needs to get taken out to the curb would be the crown jewel. If the environment is dirty, it should be even easier to get in that dirty talk mindset.

Read Each Other's Mind

During your next date, practice reading each other's minds. Once you develop telepathy, you'll never actually have to say your dirty talk out loud, because your partner can just read your thoughts. One less thing for you to worry about! You'll probably be able to develop this skill in an afternoon, yeah?

Give Out Lots Of Compliments

One talking dirty tip we originally gave was to hand out some compliments, but sometimes it can take a while to craft the perfect compliment. However, it's pretty easy to think of all the things that are awesome about yourself, so just focus all your compliments on you!

Whisper Your Words

Another tip was to remind you that sometimes talking in a whisper is more intimate. How do you make this a lazy tip? It doesn't even matter what you say as long as it is in that whisper tone! You may just be muffling some random words under your breath, but your partner will probably find it mysterious and alluring (even if you just said "I need to go to the grocery store later").

Variety Is Key

To be really clear, brush up on some synonyms for the word "dirty." Here, I've got a few right here: grimy, unwashed, foul, icky… Okay, so maybe those aren't exactly right for the context, but feel free to use those in the moment for some very literal "dirty talk."

Try Another Language

If you feel uncomfortable voicing dirty talk, maybe it would help to do it in another language. Luckily, there's a perfect one for you: Pig Latin! You know, pigs roll in mud, mud is dirty, so by that logic, Pig Latin is perfect for talking dirty. Plus, doesn't everyone know how to speak Pig Latin pretty fluently? There shouldn't be any risk of your partner getting confused.

Make A Note

Feel like you can think of a lot to say, but not in the moment? Just write down all your dirty talk lines on individual notes and toss them in a bowl. During your hookup, just point to the pile. Yeah, you'll have to take a quick pause so your partner can pick and read a dirty talk note, but hey, at least you're off the hook for ever having to come up with things on the spot! What you'll "say" each time will even be a surprise to you!

Turn To Hollywood

Actors get pro screenwriters to come up with all their lines for them, so just "borrow" a little from the movie world by recording the dialogue from some of your favorite talking dirty movie scenes on your phone. All you have to do is press play, and BAM you have a whole soundtrack filled with professionally scripted dirty talk for you to pass off as your own. No extra effort on your part!

Okay, let’s talk about what you’ve got on under those jeggings–and who you’re wearing them for! That’s right, we’re talking underwear. Underwear drawers across America are divided up between “everyday underwear” that you presumably wear for your own comfort, and “sexy underwear” that you presumably wear when you want to be sexy for someone else. To me, this is all wrong.

While it’s true that underwear should fulfill either your need to be comfortable or your need to feel amazingly beautiful (and in some miracle cases, a pair of underwear can do both)–whatever underwear you wear should be chosen for you and you alone! What a lot of people don’t realize is that you’ll always be sexier in something you like than in something that suits someone else’s preferences, because you’re more confident in the things you genuinely feel good in! So, if you feel like a rockstar in a lace thong? Go for it! If wearing cotton boy shorts makes you feel awesome, then wear those!

The bottom line (heehee) is that the person you’re with should like you for you–even if that means you don’t dress up like a Victoria’s Secret angel every night. The sexiest sexy underwear of all is whatever makes you feel like the goddess you are.

So when my crush walked up to me, I was super excited. He asked me if I wanted to go on a walk, and of course I said yes, thinking he was going to kiss me or tell me liked me too. We went outside by the pool, and then… he pushed me in! Fully clothed and in front of everyone!
