Ready to be annoyed? One in four guys want their girlfriends to get plastic surgery.

A new study says that out of those one in four jerks, 57 percent of them wish their girlfriends would get liposuction. Next in popularity on their cosmetic surgery wishlists? Breast implants, followed by dental surgery, nose jobs and Botox in last place.

A lot of the guys in question–most, in fact–said they’d never tell their girlfriends about the cosmetic surgery they wish she’d have, because the guys don’t think it would help improve their girlfriends’ appearance. (Is it us or does that makes like, no sense?) About half of the guys wouldn’t tell their girlfriends about it because they wouldn’t want to upset the gals (uh, duh), while about a quarter said they just didn’t want to start an argument (um, yeah).

Plastic surgery is a big deal with big risks and potentially big repercussions–and big expenses to boot. If you go under the knife or needle to feel better about yourself, more power to you. But if you feel pressured into cosmetic surgery to please a guy? It’s not going to improve your confidence at all. It’s just going to make you cave and worry about what else he thinks is wrong with you. (Hint: The only thing wrong with these girls is probably their taste in men.)

You’re hot, so that makes you hard to ask out. Seriously. It came to my attention this week that a lot of guys either don’t know how to ask someone out or are just so terrified to do it that they’ll go about it in a really roundabout way that makes it tough to realize that’s even what they’re doing.

Case in point: My now-boyfriend and I went on our first super awkward date in January, but he actually revealed to me that he first tried to ask me out in October, but it went right over my head. Here’s why: His idea of “ask out” was “Are you going to the Maria Bamford show?” And I was. And so were about ten more of our friends, and considering he’d never really even flirted with me before, I just figured he was trying to get a headcount for where we’d all be sitting.

Could I be dense? Sure (especially when math is involved). But he could also be a bit of an endearingly adorable wuss. Thankfully, he’s also an honest one, so I got him to share some other lines guys will you to ask out girls they’re too smitten with and nervous to ask out directly.

“Are you going to [insert party, concert, festival, friend's house]” means “I really hope you’re going to [party, concert, festival, friend's house].”
The boy explained that if a guy asks if you’re attending something, he wants to go too–and this is going to help him plan out what to wear. If a guy asks if you’re going somewhere, chances are it’s because he’s hoping to sweep you off your feet once you get there . . . or he needs a ride. (You’ll know. Sometimes it’s both, and that’s fine too.)

“I hear [insert movie, restaurant, laser tag venue, paintball field, etc.] is really good” means “I really hope you suggest we go there together.”
He’s probably not just making conversation if it’s just the two of you–he wants you to do the heavy lifting of actually helping him make a plan because he’s not sure where he stands with you. Go easy on him!

“I’m going to [insert movie, outing, etc.], but I don’t think you’d be into it.”
It may come off as him being sort of a jerk, but chances are he’s actually just testing you! He wants you to contradict him (“But I’ve always wanted to do a Tough Mudder!”), that way he as an easy “in” to ask you out. “He’s using reverse psychology,” Awkward Dude explained. “Like when I said you probably sucked at video games, then took you to an arcade. I knew you didn’t suck.”

Guys like to say they prefer us to look totally natural, but when presented with actual makeup looks versus bare faces, guess what? Most guys do like us a little enhanced.

In a pretty unscientific study, a pretty fine looking woman tried on a bunch of different makeup looks and had her husband–who, honestly, isn’t much of a looker himself, but was pretty nice about it–rate them on a scale of 1 (sea hag) to 5 (slammin’). His answers weren’t too surprising.

He rated her completely natural look–as in, roll out of bed and do nada–as a 3 out of 5. It should be noted that this lady has nice hair, gorgeous skin and pretty eyes, so she may have it a little easier than those of us who woke up with Mt. Vesuvius on our chins (thanks, PMS!).

She tried her “no makeup” makeup look next–tinted moisturizer, lip balm, one coat of mascara and a bit of cream blush–as a 3 out of 5 too, proving that she may as well have literally worn no makeup at all if she were only looking for his approval. She did note, however, that the no makeup look–which actually uses makeup–made her feel confident, so that likely would make her more attractive in the long run.

Getting a 4 out of 5 were two relatively glam makeup looks that used foundation, bronzer, and fake lashes–think Saturday night. One used smoky eyes and nude lips, while another used more understated eyes and a bold rep lip. (Who said dudes don’t like red lipstick?!)

Earning a 5 out of 5? Kim Kardashian-esque eyes (complete with two sets of false lashes), contouring, the works.

Faring not quite as favorably? The “full on vamp” makeup look, which paired smoky eyes with really dark red lips, bringing visions of Morticia Addams. Her hubby actually said she looked uncomfortable wearing all of that war paint.

The moral of the story? If you don’t feel confident in what you’re putting on your face and you think you can’t pull it off, no makeup looks will work. But if you own it? Guys like that more than anything.

Want to know what guys like? I’m not just talking about what guys look for in a girl, but what guys are really into – anything from music to movies to emotional stuff to, yes, relationship stuff. Dudes can be pretty hard to figure out, especially if you don’t have a lot of guy friends. If you want to find out more about guys and how they think and all that good stuff, but you don’t actually want to talk to one, there’s a website out there that might help you figure that out.

You know how us girls have Pinterest.com? Well, there’s a Pinterest for guys and it’s called Manteresting.com. It is literally Pinterest for dudes.

Now, I have no idea why guys couldn’t just use Pinterest itself, but whatever. Manteresting is definitely going to make it a tiny bit easier for us ladies to figure out what’s going on in a dude’s brain. I mean, take a look at your own Pinterest page and the things you repin – people could learn a lot about you from that stuff.

Manteresting.com kind of cracks me up, because it’s seriously a “more manly” version of Pinterest. Instead of being white and red, it’s black and white. Instead of using “likes” and “repins,” it uses “nails” and “bumps.” Just like on Pinterest, there are DIY projects, weird food recipes that no one will ever actually make and lots of pictures of home decor and random products to buy. Except instead of everything being “girly,” everything is “manly.” Whatever that means.

A lot of things are really different than what we would see on Pinterest. From taking a quick look at Manteresting, I can see pictures of cars (would probably be Polyvore outfits on Pinterest), how to cook BBQ pork butt (Pinterest’s version would be s’mores cookies), a DIY bacon candle (some sort of mason jar craft on Pinterest) and tattooed girls (actually, you can find those on Pinterest also).

But what’s really funny about these sites? How they’re actually so similar. Manteresting is proof that guys can be just as interested in DIY projects, cooking, fun home appliances  and getting in shape. I also saw a bunch of cute animal pictures and sappy quotes that would be right at home on Pinterest.

Still, this is fun to look through and see things from some guys’ perspectives. I mean, I have no idea how many men are actually using this site, but wouldn’t it be fun if it blew up like Pinterest and dudes started “renailing” things and making secret dream weddings boards (don’t pretend you haven’t done it) and having dinner parties where the menu has to be from Manteresting?

Before a date, we all have little rituals or preparations we do: I like to deep condition my hair, spritz on perfume, listen to Beyonce–and guys are no exception. In fact, some guys spend more time and money before a date than girls do–especially if they think they’ll get laid that night.

Guys spend about $70 on average before a date to get ready, and they go through a lot: waxing, facials, haircuts, the works. It’s kinda cute in a way that they’re so out to impress us (but then again, they should be, because we–especially you–are adorable and gorgeous and brilliant, and deserve it).

Here’s what dudes do, in order from most to least common, to get ready before a date: 28 percent of guys buy new undies (it’s easier than laundry, apparently), 27 percent groom their pubic hair (here’s hoping they’re careful!) and 15 percent change their sheets–they sound pretty optimistic.

As for when they’re most likely to blow all that cash before a date? Guys in the survey think that the third date is enough to get in bed together, while we’re more likely to want to wait til the fifth date or later. (Sorry fellas! And we don’t have to tell you this because you already know, but if a dude pressures you into anything on any date, he doesn’t deserve another one. Period.)

For all that money dudes plunk down, you figure they’re pretty invested in you–but there are a few things that turn them off and make them feel like it was a waste of their allowance. The biggest turnoffs included facial or body hair and dirty sheets, followed by dirty nails. (They seemed to be most concerned that we were simply doing the same stuff they did to get ready. Interesting!)

Here’s something we dug, though. Their biggest turn on? Confidence. If you want them to like you, it doesn’t matter if you have a fierce mani or the smoothest legs on the planet if you’re a bummer. You have to like you–so own it!

Since more of us are using Facebook to flirt with guys than ever, it’s pretty good to know what they do and don’t like in our Facebook pictures, specifically your Facebook profile pictures.

What’s funny is, guys have a lot of the same gripes about Facebook pictures that you and your girlfriends probably do. But a lot of the stuff that bugs guys about your Facebook pictures and Facebook profile pictures are actually things that reflect their own insecurities about themselves and where they stand with you. (Because you’re awesome and lovely, and they don’t like competition!)

Here are the ones that bug them the most!

If you have a ton of profile pictures and selfies, you look vain.
We can sort of groove with this. I mean, you know what you look like, right? And we can all guess that you’re pretty hot. So maybe it is a little superfluous.

If you have too few profile pictures, they assume you’re hiding something.
Or that you’re lazy. That’s dumb. Maybe you’re just private.

If you have only face shots, they assume you’re ashamed of your body.
Meh. You may just not have a ton of full-length shots.

If you have only body shots (especially cleavage selfies), they’re objectifying you.
Because you made it possible and they have no control over themselves apparently. Hear that, Kansas State fans? You’re not really helping the team do anything on the field, just helping creeps do stuff with tissues and Vaseline in their rooms. Gross.

Guys freak out if you look totally different from one photo to the next.
Unlike us, they don’t quite understand how exciting a new hair color or lipstick or contouring makeup is. That’s on them!

Guys hate when you pose with people who either are less cute or a lot cuter than you are.
Which is dumb for a few reasons: You can’t control what your friends look like, and birds of a feather tend to flock together. Since you’re adorable and pretty, chances are your pals are too–everyone is stunning in her own way, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so we’re ignoring this.

They hate when you pose with other guys!
Unless you’re deliberately doing it to make your crush jealous, what’s the big deal? If you have a guy BFF or a brother, don’t shy away from grabbing a camera just because you think some insecure clown is gonna freak out about it. (But if you want to qualm their nerves a bit, maybe specify in the caption that he’s your bestie or the best big brother ever.)

They actually consult Helen Fisher, Ph.D, author of Why We Love about these totally foolproof ways of determining which ladies are little sex monkeys. It’s all very insightful.

Let’s go through these signs shall we?

1. She suggests Thai for dinner: Men’s Health says that if a woman makes a decision on what to eat, she knows what she wants in the bedroom. So I guess the whole, “I’m not craving anything, let’s eat whatever” thing that I’ve been doing means I don’t know what I want sexually. That’s unfortunate.

2. She eats it up: I’m sensing a food trend here. “If someone eats slowly, it’s likely that they like to make love for a long time.” Oh really? Because sometimes I’m starving and shovel food into my mouth, and the guy I’m sleeping with very apparently enjoys himself.

3. She screams for ice cream: Your awesomeness in bed directly correlates with your taste in ice cream. “Coffee-ice-cream lovers—found to be dramatic, seductive, flirtatious—are most romantically compatible with strawberry fans.” Um. What?

4. She talks like you: Basically if you speak at the same tempo as a guy or match his verbal habits, you’re good in bed. But if you’re shy and maybe don’t talk that much or you change the subject, OH WELL NO SEX FOR YOU.

5. She knows who Sid Vicious is: Sid Vicious was the bassist for the Sex Pistols in the ’70s. Mostly older women will know this, specifically menopausal women who are “more assertive and demanding, and many of them become more interested in sex.” Oh and young women “aren’t relaxed enough to have an orgasm” so I guess until we’re in our 40′s we’re just no good under the sheets.

6. She gives good lip: If you’re a good kisser, you’re good in bed. Now, this is a decent cue but have you had a really steamy makeout sesh with a guy and he’s terrible in bed? It happens. Oh and the girls who are the best “start with baby kisses, and then maybe lick your top lip and suck your bottom lip.” Because nothing says I know how to use my vagina like licking a guy’s mouth.

7. She’s a good dancer: Because dancing is the same as sex, obviously. So if you can Harlem Shake like nobody’s business, you are a sex goddess!

The truth is, you can’t tell if someone’s good in bed by what they order to eat or what kind of ice cream they like or their age. The only way to know is if you sleep with them, and you like it.

Trying a new technique didn’t quite work out for this girl

Chances are you see this in sitcoms a lot: girls ask guys if they look fat. Guys get flustered and no matter what they say, it somehow ends up being the wrong answer.

A new survey revealed the answers girls actually want when they ask guys if they look fat–but we’re not even going to get into that, because it’s so freakin’ stupid. You simply just shouldn’t ask guys if you look fat. Here’s why.

First off, they hate hearing it. It’s sort of insulting to them when you ask guys if you look fat, because, well, they like you. They like you a lot. So putting yourself down is like talking smack about their favorite band, movie, hoodie and best friend at the same time. It’s undermining a choice they made and sort of telling them they have bad taste. And if a guy is into you, chances are his taste is pretty impeccable.

Second, it makes you seem insecure. Ask yourself why you’re asking if you look fat. Do you think you legit gained weight? If so, why would you point out your own flaw? Because chances are the guy you’re asking doesn’t even notice. Are you fishing for compliments? Because that’s really, really annoying, and it makes you look needy and desperate, which is man repellent.

Third, it plants doubt in a guy’s mind when you ask if you look fat. He starts to wonder what he’s seeing, and chances are, he didn’t think you looked fat before–but if you keep bringing it up, he’s gonna start associating you with the word “fat,” and he may begin to believe you. Possibly even worse? He may even start to wonder if you think he’s overweight, too, because if you’re so preoccupied with your own appearance and he thinks you look great, his own insecurities are going to come to the forefront too. And that’s going to make him unhappy . . . and he’ll associate you with that, too.

The more you broadcast your insecurities, the more people are going to notice them–and dude, that’s the last thing you want. This is all aside from the fact that if you don’t want an honest answer to a question, you shouldn’t ask it at all. (Which is exactly why I haven’t proposed to Harry Styles yet. I don’t think he’s ready.)

When you ask a dude what girls want for Valentine’s Day, their responses are probably going to be different from yours.

A new study said that one in 10 guys think the way to your heart is through jewelry, but it turns out what girls want most for Valentine’s Day is–awww–a handwritten poem or a hug.

A poem or a hug. See how low maintenance we are? Seriously, we are so cute. (Here’s hoping the guys don’t plagiarize their material!) Those are free, so next time a guy complains that Valentine’s Day is super commercial, remind him of that fact. Romance can be free!

About nine percent of dudes also think girls want lingerie for Valentine’s Day, though only about 1 percent of us actually do. (Doesn’t lingerie seem like a sort of selfish Valentine’s Day gift anyway? It’s pretty much as much for him as it is for you!)

Other things guys think girls want for Valentine’s Day: a homemade dinner (adorbs) and uh, for them to take a break from watching sports (dude, seriously?).

But we’re not all that easy to please. About a quarter of us wanted our guy to take us on vacation somewhere fancy or exotic. Good luck doing that with after school job money, ladies!

So, here’s what you can do: if all you want for V-Day is a hug or a poem, show this to your guy… you know, just as a hint. No big deal. Also, we want to know: is this even true? You know how you read reviews about movies before you see them? You know, other people watch the movie first, write down their thoughts and then you decide whether or not you’re into it based on what they think. Well, what if you could read that same kind of review about a guy before you went out on a date with him? If that idea sounds intriguing (and admit it, it does), then keep reading, because there’s a new app out there that allows you to do exactly that.

Lulu is an app created just for girls to rate and write reviews about their guy friends or, mainly, guys they’ve dated or hooked up with in the past. It creates profiles of guys you know by using info from Facebook and the reviews can also be totally private and anonymous. I read about it on College Candy and immediately wanted to know more. Also, I didn’t know if I thought this was an amazing invention or just a lame app that’s unfair to guys everywhere. I still don’t know how I feel. Sigh.

According to their website, “Lulu is all about encouraging good, gentlemanly behaviour, and providing a platform that makes girls’ research easier and more fun. Ultimately, we see Lulu as a private network dedicated to women and relationships, providing an online extension and enhancement of the kind of information and support that women provide each other in real life.”

The first thing that came to my mind when I read about this was that it’s the perfect place for an angry, heart-broken ex-girlfriend to go to vent about her ex – and to try to prevent any other girls from dating him. At first, I pictured Lulu as an Internet version of the infamous Mean Girls burn book. I was all like, “This is SO unfair. Imagine if guys were rating girls?! Everyone would flip out! How is this even popular?”

But according to the creators of Lulu, that kind of catty behavior isn’t encouraged: “To be clear, Lulu isn’t a place to trash-talk: Lulu’s review system makes it impossible for a vindictive ex to reveal the size of a guy’s itty bitty friend or claim he gave the Herp to 1,000 women.”

Then I thought about it some more and the other Gurl writers made some interesting points. Imagine if you could find out a dude was a total scumbag before you started talking to him and falling for him. Wouldn’t that save you a whole lot of heartbreak? Yeah… maybe. And I have to admit, it would definitely be interesting to read what other girls think about a guy I’m crushing on. Isn’t this the kind of stuff we talk about with our girlfriends anyway? The only difference here is that you now the option to get even more opinions.

But at the same time, while I admit to being very intrigued by this, I can’t get fully on board. What if you get so turned off by the reviews of a guy that you never give him a chance? Who knows, you and that guy actually could have hit it off if you didn’t let those other opinions affect you. Everyone gets along with each other differently – a guy may be weird to one girl, but he may seem awesome to you. What I’m trying to say is that it could make you miss out on potentially cool dudes.

In the end, I’d have to say that the app seems harmless - if you don’t take it super seriously. Go on there, rate some dudes, check out what other girls are saying about your crush or your boyfriend. Have fun, make a girls night out of it, add some chips and guacamole. But I wouldn’t use it as a full-on guide.

By that I mean, make your own decision that’s not based completely on what others have to say. It’s totally fine to use this as something casual and fun, but keep in mind that reading a review about someone and actually taking the time to get to know someone are two different things. You wouldn’t appreciate it if a guy had an opinion on you that was based on what other people said, so… just think about that.
