The thing is though is that based on what he’d wagered, there was no way Leonard could lose the tournament. He went ahead and gave a straight to the point answer that got the audience laughing: “Who is some guy in Normandy. But I just won $75,000!”

Anyway, the right answer was Dwight D. Eisenhower (which I would have gotten wrong), but props to Leonard for his memorable win. Sadly, I missed the live viewing of this episode, but seeing get passed around the Internet got me thinking about my own Jeopardy! potential.

I’m like so-so when it comes to getting answers correct on Jeopardy! – though, right now my biggest Jeopardy! competition is my grandmother, so I don’t know how much we can really use that as a gauge. However, there are a few Jeopardy! categories that I know I would be unbeatable at if they ever showed up on the blue board:

On more than one occasion, I have said a Liz Lemon quote as a substitute for my own actual words. I also have great recall on quotes, so I wouldn't even jumble the words. Field Hockey Rules

To make a generalization, I feel like if you don't play field hockey, there's a good chance you have absolutely zero clue about the rules. They are kind of confusing. To be honest, I had been playing for a while and didn't fully know all the rules until I had to start teaching them to kids at camp. The point is, now I know them and many people do not, so I'd rock that category.

Things That Can Be Recycled

I'm a little obsessed with recycling. I have been known to save gum wrappers to recycle. I actually get this from my mom who is really disciplined about it and even has a booklet all about how to sort recycling, which of course, I have read. I think that knowledge would pay off in this category.

Top Chef Trivia

I basically forced an entire conversation about my Top Chef obsession on the walk back from lunch with my co-workers today. Whether it's memorable meals (I still want Grayson and Chris' chicken salad sandwich at least once a week) or my favorite judges, I have my finger on the pulse of Top Chef. I feel very confident in this category.

Procrastination

In this category, they would read an important task that needs to get done and it would require a perfect excuse to postpone it. Yes, it's ironic that I'd be the first to answer in a procrastination category, but I am so pro at procrastination, that it is in fact one of the few things that I actively do. Has anyone else noticed an abnormal amount of cartoon images on their Instagram feeds lately? I have. Last week, one of my friends posted a picture of a cartoon girl’s face with short hair and glasses. Her caption said, “It’s me as a cartoon!” I brushed it off because I had no idea what it was, but the next day, three more of my friends had posted similar pictures. And the next day, even more. By the end of the week, I was like, “Okay, what the heck is going on?!”

What’s going on is the new app iMadeFace, which is super popular right now. People are apparently all about creating cartoon versions of their face, which iMadeFace allows you to do. I’ll just be honest here: the majority of the images I’ve seen really look nothing like the person they’re supposed to. Confused and intrigued, I downloaded it for myself.

So how exactly does iMadeFace work? It’s actually the most simple and basic thing ever. I assumed that you downloaded a picture of yourself and then the app created a cartoon that looked like you. I don’t know why I thought that, but doesn’t that kind of make sense?

Anyway, the app doesn’t work that way. Basically, you just create a cartoon version of yourself out of… nothing. You can pick your face shape, your hair, your eyes, your nose, even your eyebrows. You can change the color of basically everything (except for your eyes, which makes me sad) and there are tons of different options. There has to be, like, 50 different hairstyles to choose from.

Oh, and you can also include cute little add-in’s, like some seriously fabulous sunglasses or text to go along with your face. The text is weird, though. One option is “pat-pat” and I don’t even know what that means.

Obviously, we were unable to resist having a little iMadeFace app party in the Gurl office. We all made one! Check out the cartoon version of the Gurl staff:

Do they look like us? Uhhh… sort of, not really. But whatever. This app is literally completely pointless, but it’s also fun and an excellent way to waste time. I was skeptical before and even when I was doing it, I was all like, “this is kind of lame,” but now I sort of want to make faces for every one of my friends. So, moral of the post: go make one of yourself!

Recently, the American Academy of Pediatrics released a policy statement where they back the importance of recess for kids. Win! Even though I’m not a doctor, I couldn’t agree more considering how much I enjoyed recess. Once you get to high school, college, and then adult life, it’s kind of sad that there isn’t a point in your day to just run around and hang out with your friends.

Enjoy The Simple Things

Sometimes things that seem really simple actually end up being the most fun. Hopscotch is basically just tossing a rock and hopping up and down. With chalk, you can basically make it anywhere. But still, I wanted to play this all the time at recess. Just because something seems kind of simple, don't underestimate how much joy you can get from it.

Hold On When Things Get Crazy

If hopscotch was my fourth grade activity, the tire swing was fifth grade. We'd get them to spin super fast, and a few times it felt like I was going to go flying off. By just taking a deep breath and holding on tight, I was always able to get through it. Taking that same approach to life obstacles works pretty well too.

Be Daring

At recess, I did some things on monkey bars that looking back were pretty unsafe. I'm not advocating for that at all, but I think the attitude of not being scared to try new things is a good one. I hate heights, but I used to climb on top of the monkey bars and sit up there watching the whole playground. It's nice to take a cue from my younger self that being a little daring can have positive outcomes.

Try Thinking In A New Way

Slides are pretty straightforward - you sit and go down them. Maybe that's what made climbing up slides so appealing, because it was breaking the rules a little. Okay, maybe climbing up slides wasn't the safest thing, but it did show that thinking outside the box could result in something new that was still fun and enjoyable.

A Little Effort Goes A Long Way

Pumping your legs while on a swing is such a simple motion, but it's the difference between barely getting off the ground and getting so high you're worried you'll loop over the top bar. With just a little bit more effort, things get a lot more fun real fast, so putting in even a little bit more energy into your activities today could help make them that much more enjoyable and successful.

The More, The Merrier

In school it was easy to always stick tight with my really close friends, but I did learn through recess that it is important to let other people join the group. I loved jumping rope on my own, but I had even more fun when we got a big group together and pulled out the long jump ropes and did all the fun rhymes. By letting more people be a part of your group, you'll have the opportunity to do new things - not to mention, make new friends.

Know When To Apologize

One of my most traumatic childhood memories happened during recess. I accidentally broke my friend's Skip-It when it hit the brick wall of our school... on her birthday. I felt so awful. Mistakes don't just happen at recess, but all throughout life. While they can be a real downer, if you own up and sincerely apologize, for the most part everyone is able to move on. Yes, even my birthday friend forgave me!

Messes Are Part Of The Experience

During recess, you're probably going to get dirt, cuts, callouses and blisters on your hands at some point. These kinds of uncomfortable situations may not always be the best parts of the experience for you, but these things generally don't last too long. When you think back on recess or just life in general, you're more likely to remember your fun experiences, so try not to get too caught up on the little things trying to trip you up along the way.

Switch Things Up

Whenever it rained or was too cold, there was always indoor recess. It was a nice change of pace from running around outside, and I got a chance to do some more low-key (but just as fun) activities, like board games. Even when you're older, switching up the fun schedule every once in a while is key to not getting bored.

Imagine Away! But Know When To Come Back To Reality

Just because you can imagine you are an awesome race car driver during recess with the playground steering wheel, it does not mean that these skills will translate when you learn how to drive an actual car. Imagination is always good, but it is also important to know when you need to face reality. Yeah, I had that taste of reality when I realized pretend driving and actual driving are very different skill sets.

I don’t honestly think that real spirits can contact you through the Ouija board–but even if you don’t believe in ghosts, the Ouija board can be kind of scary late at night. Especially when you know you weren’t moving the pointer–and your friends swear they weren’t, either.

But then if nobody really was moving the pointer, and there aren’t ghosts, then how does it move? Scientists are pretty confident that when the Ouija board’s pointer moves, it’s because of something called the ideomotor phenomenon. That means that your subconscious mind tells your muscles to move in a certain way (like, to move the pointer with super tiny muscular movements in your fingers) without your brain telling you you’re doing it. So you don’t realize you’re moving the pointer at all, but you are.

Now that I’ve gone and ruined all the fun (okay, I probably haven’t–I knew about the ideomotor phenomenon at that Halloween party and still got weirded out!), here’s a fun song about Ouija boards by Morrissey. . . called Ouija Board, Ouija Board! LOVE! IT!

While it’s usually more fun to play video games yourself, sometimes it’s cool to sit back and watch someone else get a high score, too… Especially when that someone else is on a big screen and you can sit back and eat snacks.

You’ve probably seen a ton of movies based on video games (oh hey, zillions of Resident Evil flicks!), but we have a soft spot for movies that put the spotlight on the gamers themselves, since they’re an underappreciated breed. Gaming requires brains, strategy, coordination, and thinking outside the box.

It was hard to narrow these down (Cloak & Dagger and Big are also good ones to check out!), but we managed! Here are our favorite Hollywood tributes to the good kinds of players–the ones that will break all of the bricks in Super Mario Bros. instead of breaking your heart. Blow on your old NES cartridge and get ready to get nostalgic!

Tron: Legacy

Garrett Hedlund is pretty much reason enough to see anything. But Garrett Hedlund sucked into an arcade game with Jeff Bridges, a bunch of glow-in-the-dark outfits, and a mod Olivia Wilde? Yes please. Our favorite part of Tron Legacy is just how much butt Olivia kicks as Quorra. And her cool haircut!

War Games

Before Matthew Broderick was at war with Rooney in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, he was starting World War III with his old school computer in War Games. Based on the creepy voice, we probably wouldn’t have played that game ourselves. Think Battleship… But with nukes. And real. Yikes!

Back to the Future II

Who doesn’t love Marty McFly? When he time travels in Back to the Future II and tries to impress some younger, more modern gamers, it doesn’t go as planned. But can you imagine how much butt he’d kick at Duck Hunt or House of the Dead with a quick shot like that? Cut him some slack, kids!

Never Say Never Again

What do you get when you combine James Bond with video games? That’s right: You get awesomeness. Also, check out the Gaga-esque outfits on the ladies in this clip! Based on his skills, do you think Sean Connery would be good at Goldeneye on N64?

The Wizard

As if you needed more reasons than The Wonder Years to love Fred Savage, here’s The Wizard, where he defends a master gamer (believed to be autistic) on a road trip. He also shows his chivalry in defending his new pal, Haley, played by singer Jenny Lewis. Cute!
