The answer is COUNTLESS.

I have (not-so) fond memories of waking up in college and realizing I literally had no clean clothes left. I then proceeded to treat our campus laundry facility like a giant “Risk” board and competed with crowds of fellow clean-laundry-deprived students to overtake as many washers as possible. (I believe my record is six at once).

Why not just simplify the whole annoying process? We’ve come up with some lazy girl tips to help you get that laundry situation under control. Well, kind of…


Get Sneaky

Discreetly disperse your laundry among the hampers of your siblings / parents / roommates and cash in on their more dutiful laundry habits. Just go into stealth mode and get your stuff out of the dryer before they start folding and notice your whole wardrobe mixed in with theirs.

Mix Well For Best Results

Reds, whites — don't bother wasting your time with all that separating nonsense. You were looking for a new pink shirt anyway, right? Well now you've got one!

Shower Up

Hop right in the shower and lather up with your dirty clothes on. You get clean, the clothes get clean — a two-in-one time-saver! I mean, if you did that when you showered at the end every day, in theory you'd never have dirty clothes again!

Spritz On Some Freshness

Perfume isn’t just for spritzing on your skin on when you don’t have time to take a shower. Start spraying your clothes before you get dressed. It may take a few more spritzes than you usually use to get all the fabric covered, but after all - if something doesn't smell bad, can it REALLY be dirty? Nah, we don't think so either.

It's Their Problem, Not Yours!

If the smell of your dirty sweatshirt doesn’t bother you, why should you have to do laundry just to please other people? Still, be courteous and offer nose plugs for them to wear in your presence. They’ll be happy, and you can put off laundry for a while!

Shop Instead Of Wash

Rarely do you need an excuse to go shopping, but instead of doing laundry, just buy some new outfits whenever you're running low on clean clothes. It's a best of both worlds!

Give Your Wardrobe The Vacuum Treatment

You don't wash your carpets every day when a quick vacuum once in a while will do, right? Just give your dirty laundry a quick once over with the vacuum cleaner and it should be as good as clean.

Ugh, ironing is such a pain. Instead of dealing with all of that business, just toss that shirt you want to wear tomorrow on a chair and drop your big stack of textbooks on it. That'll probably flatten out any wrinkles by the morning, right?

Get Creative With Stains

Spilled some coffee on your shirt? You don't need to get that washed right away. It's kind of like tie-dye now! The more stains, the more interesting your "DIY" shirt will be, and if you washed it, you would ruin it! Throw all your "neat eating" manners out the window, and start getting messy. You aren't doing your laundry for the sake of fashion!

Rev Up The Speed Of Drying

Dryers take too long. See how this car fashioned this flag to their window? Make your own laundry flag! If that sweatshirt you want to wear is still damp from the wash, just fashion it as a flag before you you head off to school. It's like drying on a clothesline multiplied by 40 m.p.h. It may have more of an exhaust smell than a fresh line-dry scent, but hey, you just wanted it dry.

I’m one of the few people who actually enjoys first dates. Typically people are on their best behavior and trot out all their best stories and funniest anecdotes. But some people use a first date as an opportunity to shock and horrify, namely the dudes I tend to date. Check out the top 10—and believe me I could’ve done more—most awful things my dates have actually had the nerve to say on a first date. And bible, I’m not making these up.

 

 

 

10. “How the f*** do I know what’s in a matzo ball? What am, I your Jewish liaison?”

This charmer was going on and on about how much he loves matzo ball soup, which I’ve never had, so I asked him what exactly a matzo ball entailed. After this little exchange I told him that no, he’s not my Jewish liaison—he’s not going to be my anything.

 

9. “I try not to date girls your age. All you guys want to do is get married.”

Um, I’m sitting right here.

 

8. “You got your nose fixed? Wow I had no idea you were so shallow.”

I got my nose fixed because I broke it. Yeah I’m shallow because I don’t want to spend my life as a mouth-breather. And BTW, he had just finished telling me about how he had his ears pinned back as a kid because people called him Dumbo. Now I guess they just call him Doucher.

 

7. “….And, that was the first time I had a penis in my mouth!”

Note to self: never ever playfully ask a guy to tell you a secret. You just may get an answer like this.

 

6. “I mean, don’t you think you’re what’s wrong with society?”

Because I’m an editor at Star magazine, which, OK fine, isn’t exactly going to earn me a Pulitzer, but I like our mag and so do our readers. He, meanwhile, was a member of the NRA.

5. “So can you, like, hook me up with Lauren Conrad?”

I’m former MTV reality star but—shocker!—I don’t live in one giant compound with all my other network mates. And even if I did, even if LC and Pauly D and Teen Mom Maci’s hot baby daddy and I were sharing groceries and having cookouts together, is it really appropriate to ask to be set up with a different girl on a first date? WTF bro?

 

4. “No no no no no—here’s why you’re wrong…”

I firmly believe that I’m never ever wrong. And I’m even less wrong when I’m expressing an opinion, as I was on a date with this nightmare. I believe I declared Gladiator to be my favorite movie. And at the end of the date I also declared him to be unlovable. That is not wrong.

 

3. “Sorry. I’m broke from two DUIs, you’re gonna have to get this one.”

ON A FIRST DATE. Seriously dude? If you can’t afford to take a girl out to coffee (my latte wasn’t exactly bank-breaking) then guess what: don’t ask a girl out! And certainly don’t be so rude about it. And certainly, certainly don’t get two DUIs, you loser.

 

2. “You’re left handed? Um, that’s like, kinda like being handicapped. Sorry but I don’t really see this going anywhere.”

Seriously.

1. “Oh c’mon don’t be so provincial! Open your mind!”

My date said this when he PULLED OUT A BOTTLE OF LUBE and set it on the table. ?!?!?!?!?! It was clear my mind wasn’t what he wanted me to open…

What I mean is that at the start of a new year, I’m super optimistic and often set out with the best of intentions to stick with my New Year’s resolutions so that I feel happier and healthier.

However, as the days keep going by, that optimism often tends to experience a gradual decline. Actually, maybe I should call it a sharp decline, because by the end of January, my motivation for sticking with those New Year’s resolutions is more or less zapped. Here is how January tends to go down.

January 1: This is going to be the best year ever!!!! I am going to exercise every day! And eat more vegetables! And keep a day planner! And write that novel! Hey, there’s no such thing as too many resolutions! Look out, 2013!

January 3: Look at this shiny planner that I bought! I’m going to be so organized compared to everyone else.

January 6: Wow, this kale tastes so good! I could literally eat it for every meal. Keeping my New Year’s resolution to eat healthy is going to be a breeze. Go, me!

January 8: I’m doing so well with my resolutions, that I decide that my friends probably want my advice, so I start offering it before they even ask.

Fine, don’t take my advice, friends. I’ll just start sharing the news of my success on Facebook so more grateful Internet followers can share in my wisdom.

January 12: I sit down to start writing my great novel, but I have a little writer’s block. I’ve been so good though with all of my other resolutions, I decide that I should just have a teeny tiny reward.

2 hours later… The whole box of cookies is gone. Whoops. It’s okay, just a slip-up. Not gonna sweat it.

January 15: Went on a run today to stick with my commitment to more regular exercise. Okay, so it was supposed to be a 5 mile run, but I cut it down to one so I could get home to watch TV. But hey, I still exercised! It counts for something.

January 18: Ughhhh, there isn’t enough space in this planner to write down all of my homework. How am I supposed to stick with my resolutions when the whole world is against me?!

January 22: Ugh, kale for dinner AGAIN?!

January 25: Wow, I just realize I haven’t exercised in a week. Uh oh — seem to have forgot that resolution along the way.

January 27: Wait, what were my resolutions again… I know I wrote them down somewhere. Oh, in that planner! Which I can’t seem to find… This is not good.

January 29: I HATE VEGETABLES!!! I NEVER WANT TO SEE ANOTHER PLANT IN MY LIFE!!

January 31: I think I’ve been defeated by my resolutions.

February 4: So I’ve taken a few days to think about how January went. You know, I may not have a planner or always eat the required servings of vegetables each day or run for fun or be a published author, but I got through 2012 just fine, and I like this version of me. 2013 is going to be fine, whether I’m a resolutions all-star or not. And you know what? If I REALLY want to try again, there’s always 2014.

Pay Attention To The Positives

If it has some sort of healthy component, it gets checked off as an eating right win. Delicious cooked vegetables... drenched in butter! Strawberries... dipped in chocolate! Hey now, you could have JUST eaten chocolate, right? I think the maturity to include that healthy strawberry is really an eating right achievement.

Eat Those Greens!

Your parents always told you "eating your greens" was an important part of eating right. Okay! Bring on the green sour candies and the mint ice cream! Hey, we're just trying to eat our greens here!

Don't Look!

It’s kind of like that saying “If a tree falls and nobody is around, does it make a sound?” Similarly, “If you eat junk food and you don’t see it, does it really count?” Nahhhh.

Schedule In Wiggle Room

Sticking to eating right can be tough, so just know that it's okay to declare weekends as your cheat days. But if it extends to Fridays or Mondays, that’s okay too. Actually whenever the day ends in "Y," it’s okay not to count it as an official "must eat healthy today" day. Everyone deserves a break once in a while!

Reward Yourself

In addition to not beating yourself up over cheat days, after each healthy meal you do eat, remember to reward yourself so that you keep up your healthy eating habits. Healthy lunch? Reward yourself with a little cake. Healthy dinner? Reward yourself with a little more cake. Those dessert rewards will really keep you motivated to keep up your healthy eating streak.

Keep It Moving

If you’re walking around while you’re eating, it probably just cancels everything out. Just quit using tables and chairs, and you’re good to eat whatever you want, worry-free!

Spend Less Time Cooking

Trying to lead a healthy life includes both eating right and taking some time to be active. But if you're spending so much time cooking up healthy meals, when are you ever going to get out and run around? Basically eating fast food means you'll have all that extra time to get in some exercise — you know, just after this 12-hour Pretty Little Liars marathon ends, and wow, this couch is so comfortable...

Portion Your Plate

Have you seen seen that image of a dinner plate designed to help you eat right right by showing how to proportion each of the different food groups? But a regular plate looks a little small! Grab the biggest platter in your house and start divvying up the food groups. Looks like you may need a whole turkey to fill that poultry portion of your platter, but hey, you're keeping everything in balance to one another, so that's really the eating right goal in action.

Make It Photo Official

"Facebook official" isn't just for relationships. If you post a photo of your plate with the caption, "My Dinner!" that's basically an undeniable truth. Does it matter then if you ate a heaping bowl of fried onion rings in addition to that very elegant salad you posted a picture of (which by the way has 16 "Likes" and counting)? Nope! As long as your pictures prove you were eating right, there's really no evidence to suggest otherwise.

Demand Chef Service

Convince your parents that in order to stick with your plans to eat right, they need to hire a professional chef to prepare you healthy meals. I mean, they'll just have to budget in the chef's salary, a room to stay in at your house, the cost of food... but it's for your health, so they really can't say "no," right?

These self-proclaimed “nice” guys of OKCupid.com just don’t get it.

You can’t be a nice guy if you say things that are totally sexist, rude and immature. You can’t really be a nice guy if you make broad generalizations about women based on the actions of a few women you know. Also? You can’t get women to believe you’re a nice guy by telling them you are and then insulting them. It doesn’t work that way, dudes.

What exactly am I talking about? These “nice” guys from OkCupid.com who have portrayed themselves as anything but nice. I always heard that the world of online dating was filled with some pretty weird people (although it’s not all weird people), but I didn’t realize just how many jerks there were. Luckily, the genius behind the Tumblr NiceGuysOfOc.com rounded them up for us.

These guys seem to follow some sort of pattern. They write that they are one of the few truly nice guys left out there, but then they convince you otherwise by whining about always being stuck in the friend zone, complaining about how women are stupid and always choose the wrong guy and then saying something really derogatory. Examples? Most of these men say women have an obligation to keep their legs shaved and a few of them apparently don’t know the meaning of the word “no.” For example, in the section that says “NO means NO” on OkCupid, one guy wrote, “Mostly, occasionally it’s really a Yes in disguise.” Um, no. No, it’s not.

This Tumblr would be absolutely hilarious if it weren’t so disgusting and uncool and sort of pathetic. I mean, okay, I still find this funny, but that’s because I can’t help but laugh at these guys. Not because they’re looking for love online (there’s nothing wrong with that) or because they’ve been hurt before (we all have). I’m laughing at them because they’re contradicting themselves by being completely insensitive while trying to convince us all that they’re worth our time. You’re not worth my time if you think no might mean yes or if you feel like all women are jerks because some of us date the wrong dude from time to time.

Oh, and that reminds me: don’t say stuff like that. Guys, don’t constantly complain about being “friend-zoned” because the girl you’re into picks someone you don’t think is right for her. And don’t take that bad experience out on the entire female population. Same goes for you, ladies – it’s not fair to call all guys douchebags because a few guys didn’t treat you right.

On that note, I’m going to go back to browsing this Tumblr all day to procrastinate by making myself laugh.

From all I can tell and the general lack of panic from the majority of the public, I feel pretty good that I will wake up good to go on December 22 and the “end of the world” will be something to laugh nostalgically over in 2013.

At the same time, I am both a hardcore worrier and someone who lets my imagination run away often. As December 21 has been getting closer, my brain has been going in a thousand different “what if” directions, just trying to wonder what would happen if it really, maybe is the end of the world.

As I get closer to THE day, my worry is going from kind of joking to a little into overdrive. Yikes! I’m going to map out how I think my December 21 will go – of course with the help of GIFs – in order to help me deal.

As soon as I wake up, my eye catches something written on my calendar across the room. I see where my lovely friend – who knows how much I love to worry over things – has written END OF THE WORLD!!!! on today’s date:

Ha. Ha. Joke, right… RIGHT?! I can’t shake a nervous feeling so I call my mom. When I try to play off the calendar thing as a joke she tells me as usual, “You have to stop worrying.” I give my most convincing answer.

But inside my head it’s a whole different story.

I can’t just sit here letting my worry take over, so I decide to go to the grocery store to give myself something to do.

And when I say “gets better,” what I mean is “potentially does not end at some point today.” But when I get to the grocery, I’m like “What if it is the end of the world? Do I really want to eat yet another bowl of cereal?” I have a different idea in mind.

Yup, I want to eat like there is literally no tomorrow. And when I get home, I throw caution to the wind and EAT DESSERT FIRST! I need to LIVE IT UP!

Mmmm, good choice. Then I see that giant pile of laundry on my bed. What’s the point in packing if the world is ending? I just decide to LEAVE IT THERE. Don’t want to waste time packing for my trip home the next day, if there is no “next day” coming.

My roommate gets home and asks why there’s so much laundry and dessert everywhere. I laugh about dealing with my silly worries over 12/21/12, but then suddenly I’m gripped with panic — the end of the world isn’t just an excuse for eating a lot of junk and not cleaning up. It’s like, actually really kind of scary and super sad.

I can’t remember what time today is the exact “end” but by around the late afternoon, I have to start thinking that it’s coming soon. I turn on the news but they aren’t talking about this AT ALL. It’s like, guys, this could be THE story of humankind here. Why is the 24/7 news media not on this?

I decide to make a couple phone calls. You know, take advantage to finally say what’s on my mind to some people. But I end up just kind of waiting around, since it turns out other people aren’t just waiting by the phone like I am for impending doom.

Nope, everyone is going out for their usual Friday plans, but I think the idea of heading back outside into a potentially ending world sounds terrible. Nope, I’m just not going to leave the safety of my bed for any reason whatsoever.

Instead I spend the potentially final night of Earth on Facebook looking at the pictures of everyone else YOLO-ing about. Sigh, what if they don’t even know it is the (potential, maybe) end of the world? I can’t anymore.

Between the evening of news and Facebook and my comfy bed, I start to get tired earlier than usual. No, I need to make it all the way to the end! I fight sleep like my existence depends on it (because… maybe it does!).

I wake up in a drowsy haze, still sprawled on the couch… What day is it? My phone says December 22 — GUYS, WE MADE IT! EARTH STILL EXISTS! I mean, I knew it was going to be like that all along. Totally never doubted. (But we should still celebrate!)

I look again at the time on my phone. My bus home leaves in two hours. I look at my dishes from my feast all over my apartment. My laundry all over my bed. My unpacked suitcase.

Uh oh. Yeah… guess I should have counted on December 22 to roll around just a littttlleeee bit more. Whoops.

You know how great it is to find a bra that just fits you so super well? A really perfect bra? One that’s comfortable and that makes your jubblies look like a million bucks? Right. I had one of those. It was a black Calvin Klein front-hook underwire that one of the women in the lingerie department at Macy’s had recommended for me. Before I’d tried it on, I was skeptical. “Why do I need such a fancy bra?!,” I thought, but then when I tried it on, I realized that bra had been made just for me. The perfect bra existed, afterall!

I wore that bra all the time, until about a year ago when I lost it. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out where it had gone, but eventually I forgot about it, found other good (but not quite as good) bras and got on with my life.

Then, last weekend, when I was sorting through an old overnight bag, I found it! My perfect bra and I had been reunited! I washed it by hand, hung it up to dry, and waited for it to be ready to wear. I was psyched.

The next day, I was running late in the morning, but popped that bra on under a sweater and headed out the door. Except, while I was on the subway, I noticed something funny. My bra was moving around! On my breasts! Every time I moved, it moved differently. I’d bend forward, the cups would ride up. I’d lean back and they’d slide down. Sometimes my torso was pointed to the left, but the cups of my bra were pointed to the right! What on earth was happening?! I looked like I had extra jubblies growing out of me and felt uncomfortable all day.

Finally, when I got home, I took off that bra and tried to fix it. Surely the straps were too long. If I shortened them, it would fix everything! No luck. What had really happened was that the band that went around my chest had stretched out and lost all elasticity. I had found my favorite bra, but it turned out that it really was lost forever.

I mourned that bra just a little as I flung it into the garbage bin in my room, but really, it was time. Here’s hoping there’s another perfect bra in my future. Maybe I should ask my fairy godmothers at Macy’s to help me out again.
