Imagine if you finally got the nerve to convince yourself to tell your crush that you like like him (not just as a friend). Then imagine that instead of the fantasy daydream you had happening in your head where he confessed his undying love for you, he just sort of… never answered. At all.

How do you deal when you kind of, sort of get rejected, but you’re not really sure because you haven’t heard a yes or no at all? That’s what this girl is dealing with right now, and I know she’s not alone. So what is she supposed to do – bring it up again to get an answer, or drop it altogether and move on? Read what some girls had to say, then give us your opinion.

I had a feeling that he liked me too because of how much time we spent together alone just talking and having lunch, so I decided to tell him how I felt. If I were you, I would prepare myself to take a hardhit. This could go either way in which it would either go you two become boyfriend and girlfriend or you guys could never talk to each other.  Prepare yourself mentally so at least if it turns out the way you didn’t want it to, you can move on easily. Then definitely talk to him face to face, and just make it a casual talk: “hey, I like you and I think that we should hang out sometimes more than just a friend, what do you think about that?” If its a no-go… on to the next one, but if it goes well make sure he’s comfy with it since it would be his first.

Let me just congratulate you on having the guts to tell your crush how you feel. I’ve personally never made the first move like that, and I admire anyone who does it – and it’s something you should be proud of, regardless of how things turn out.

That being said, the only way you’re going to get a real, concrete answer to this is if you talk to this dude again. You can say something like, “Hey, have you thought about what I told you at all?” or “Are you interested in being anything more than friends, or no?” If he still doesn’t want to talk about it, it’s time to forget it and move on. If he rejects you, it’s your decision whether you want to stay friends or not. And if he says yes? Yay! But I’d say the best thing you can do here is talk to him – otherwise you’ll forever be wondering what’s going on in his head.

As you probably know from dealing with your own pals, sometimes a friend’s insight can give you that extra boost of confidence you need to flirt with a cute boy – or convince you to pass on the one who, apparently, secretly collects belly-button lint. But there are a few factors that will determine how much a guy’s friends will actually influence his romantic decisions.

For one thing, how close are these “friends” of his? He’ll be much more likely to take the claims of legit, lifelong BFFs seriously than those of some randos in his English class merely vying for his attention.

Even if he is tight with them, a decent dude will dismiss those negative comments his friends have only “heard” about you as meaningless gossip. And assuming that you weren’t a total jerk to his friends when rejecting them (e.g. “Hey Chicken Legs – get some calf implants and talk to me then!”), he should be able to distinguish bitter trash-talk from legitimate allegations.

Finally, his reaction will depend on what, exactly, he’s hearing. Are his friends telling him that you’re “cold” or “difficult” because of stuff they’ve actually witnessed? He’ll have an easier time ignoring judgments about your personal or sexual history — most of us don’t care about that stuff as much.

Ultimately, if he’s the type of guy you want to date in the first place, he’ll be smart enough to form his own opinions after giving you a chance himself. The best you can do is make it clear that you’re into him – or even ask him out – and hope that he’s a gentleman!

This is definitely a tricky situation. I know this isn’t your fault and you can’t help your feelings, but it’s totally understandable for your friend to be upset. As unfair as it might seem, it sounds like you need to make a choice between your best friend and your crush. That stinks, and it’s definitely going to be a difficult thing for you to go through, but dragging this out is only going to hurt everyone involved even more, including you.

The main thing you need to ask yourself here is this: Is this guy really worth hurting your BFF over? Ideally, your best friend should be the girl who is always there for you and who always makes you laugh. Think about your relationship with your best friend – have you always been able to count on her? How long have you guys known each other? Dating this guy is not only going to ruin your friendship, but it’s also going to hurt her a lot. Are you willing to make her feel totally crappy over this?

I’m not trying to make you feel guilty at all, I just want to help you make the right decision for yourself. It can be really hard to find true friends in this world, and if this girl was a great friend to you, then losing her is going to hurt you as well. Even if you end up dating this dude and you’re totally happy, there will probably always be a part of you who misses your friend – and running back to her once (if) the relationship ends won’t be an option.

If you feel like this guy is really special and you don’t want to give him up (and that’s okay), then you need to talk to your BFF about this and try to salvage things. Tell her that betraying her is the last thing you ever wanted to do, but you can’t help your feelings. Explain to her exactly how you feel and let her know you don’t want to lose her as a friend – see if there’s any way she can learn to be comfortable with the idea of you two together.

You also need to talk to your crush about this seriously. The fact that he has feelings for both you and your friend could be a warning sign. You need to ask him who he really wants to be with and see if he’s totally serious about a relationship with you. While this decision is totally up to you, keep in mind that choosing a guy over a friend can often become pretty messy, especially when that guy isn’t only crushing on you.

Basically what I’m trying to say is that you need to make sure that pursuing this relationship is really worth losing your BFF over. If things don’t end up working out with this guy, it could be a decision you’ll really regret. Go with your gut on this one, and don’t make a quick decision.

DON’T lead them on.
Sometimes we aren’t clear because we want to be nice. It’s not fair to give someone false hope. Feelings will be hurt. That’s a harsh part of life. If you know you’re not interested NEVER allow anything physical or sexual to take place, got it?

The bottom line…
The friend zone is the friend zone. Make it clear that there’s nothing your friend can do to win you over. This is an awkward situation but with empathy and compassion your friendship can be stronger than ever.

Okay, Heather here! I totally agree with Pubertina’s advice and just wanted to add a few things. It definitely stinks that your crush doesn’t share the same feelings as you. I know how much you’re probably hoping he’ll change his mind, but if that happens, it’s something that he’ll need to figure out without your help. This is one of those situations where the best thing to do is back off and move on.

Imagine if you didn’t like a dude, and he kept talking to you and attempting to do things to win you over. It would probably get pretty annoying, right? Continuing to be persistent in going after your crush after he’s already made a decision is only going to turn him off. Be friendly towards him if you’re comfortable with that – maybe in time he’ll see how totally awesome you are and realize he needs to date you.

But keep in mind that that might not happen, and that’s fine. You don’t deserve to sit around trying to make some dude fall in love with you. One day you’ll meet someone who will return all of your feelings and more, and you’ll forget all about this guy!
