It’s Official: This Is The Coolest 10-Year-Old Boy Ever

In my experience, 10-year-old boys are interested in a few things: grossing people out by doing weird stuff, playing video games, staying away from girls’ cooties and generally being a teensy bit annoying but making up for it by being cute. I have a godson this age guys, so I’m kind of an expert.

So imagine my surprise when I read about the seriously adorable 10-year-old Evan from Philadelphia, who spends his allowance on helping others rather than on toys or snacks or stuff like that. What is he donating his money to? A local cat rescue called City Kitties. I mean, seriously… could this story get any sweeter?

Apparently, Evan and his family adopted a beloved cat from City Kitties in 2009. Evan must have been really touched by what he saw going on in there, because after that, he started donating his allowance to City Kitties. He didn’t just give them his precious money, though – he sent handwritten notes along with the cash. One note goes like this (if you haven’t been smiling yet, you will definitely smile after you read this):

Dear City Kitties: My name is Evan and I am 7-years-old. And guess what? I LOVE cats! They are my favorite animals and I got my cat at City Kitties as well! THANK YOU for letting me get my new cat! I get an allowance every week and I chose to make a donation to you. I love that you help cats find homes. I saved this money to help you save cats.

UM. Is it weird that I want this kid to age about 10 years or 15 years overnight and then come be my boyfriend? Don’t answer that. This is the most heart-warming story I’ve read online in a while and I just can’t get enough of it. I mean, how many kids do you know who would willingly give away all of their money to a charity? I love all the kids I know, but I’m not sure they could be so committed.

The story gets even cuter, if that’s possible: after months of saving, Evan donated $46.75. City Kitties posted the note on their Facebook page, which went viral and inspired hundreds of people to match Evan’s donation. In 2010, he went a step a further by selling figs from his family’s fig tree to raise even more money. In 2011, Evan donated $97 and in 2012, he donated $101.

I realize that $46 in one year isn’t going to do a lot for a cat rescue shelter, but the amount of money isn’t the point here. The point is that this 10-year-old should be inspiring everyone at every age because of how selfless and thoughtful he is. He’s doing his best to save kittens and cats who have been abandoned and it’s awesome to see a boy this young do something so mature. So basically, this kid is my hero.

This video is proof that cats will do pretty much whatever the eff they want because they don’t care about what you want them to do. It’s also further proof that kittens are adorable and amazing in basically every way.

What’s going on here? These obviously future star kittens have managed to escape their caged area in the cutest way possible. Also? This video wouldn’t be complete without the perfect background music accompanying it.Watch yourself – and as anyone who has ever learned a kitten can tell you, this is totally possible.

Pawsome: This Kitten Has The Cutest Separation Anxiety Ever

I’m not even going to attempt to lie – I teared up a little bit watching this video. It’s just too cute and sad and pathetic. And it’s exactly why I love animals – they love you so much that they never, ever want you to leave! The end is the saddest part. I guess I can sort of relate to this guy just throwing his kitten on the bed, though. My cat follows me around with pitiful, sad eyes all morning until I leave for work and when I’m really in a rush I’m kind of like, “Belle! Get out of my way!” JK, I can’t relate to this. This kitten is way too cute to throw like that. Cold, dude. So, so cold.

Also, I may or may not do something similar to my boyfriend when he leaves for work in the morning. I mean, it’s not this extreme, but… I don’t know. I guess I can see where this kitten is coming from.

Coming to a nightclub near you: Vinyl Cat, otherwise known as the best new DJ on the scene. He is also known as one of the main reasons why cats are pretty much the best animals ever. Seriously.

One of the best things about cats is how curious they are, because that adorable curiosity leads to so many funny things. Cats might get a reputation for being snobby and uptight but they actually are just totally silly and it’s awesome. This cat is such a funny example of that. I love this video (and I also love the song – good choice, Vinyl Cat!), and I especially love the ending. Watch for yourself to see what I’m talking about:

Here’s a question I’ve always wondered: where did Internet smiley faces come from? I mean, who decided to start combining different keys to make little faces, otherwise known as emoticons? I’m not complaining about them, because I might use them in every text I send, but I’m just wondering.

Well, my question has been answered… sort of. I don’t know who started this awesome trend, but I do know what inspired it: cats! Duh. Cats inspire pretty much everything. If you’re anything like me, you’re going to be up most of tonight waiting to see the election results. I mean, this is a big deal! Whomever wins the presidency for the next four years will have a huge say over our rights, our money, and what kinds of services we have available to us.

That said? Watching political pundits blahblahblah about President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney for hours on end when they don’t even have much to say yet can get super boring AND frustrating. I Like My Pet More Than I Like Most People

I’m pretty sure we can all agree our pets are part of our families. Some of us grew up with a certain animal and can’t imagine life without, some of us raised our pets from when THEY were babies. They comfort us when we’re sad, play with us when we’re happy, provide companionship and love.

I have a lovebird named Dixie (well, really, Dixie has a human named Amy – if you have a parrot, you know what I’m talking about). When I bought her and was told her lifespan, I realized I would have her until I was at least 40 – a long time. She’d be there to help me through all sorts of things in life. And since then, she’s done just that, and has always been the one I could come home to and tell about my day, guaranteed she’d pay attention. This is just one of a million reasons why I like my pet more than I like most people.

She’s never too busy for me. Sure, sometimes she’s eating or napping, but she’s always eager to hang out and snuggle and is happiest when I’m right nearby. If I’m up and moving around at 2am, she STILL wants to sit on my shoulder.

She gets along with everyone. She likes my friends, she LOVES my family, and my family loves her right back – my parents call her their grandbird. One of Dixie’s hobbies is giving lots of kisses, and how cute is that? It’s hard to find someone who everyone you know likes, but I did it!

She’s easy to please. She’s bossy about people keeping her company, but you don’t have to focus all your attention on her. She’ll listen to whatever music I want, or watch my favorite TV programs without complaint. Gifts? Give her a magazine to shred, apple pieces, or her very favorite, scratches on her head, and she’s stoked. It makes birthdays SUPER easy.

Admittedly, my human buddies have certain advantages – they can hold up their end of a conversation, rarely bite, don’t shriek at me when they want my snacks, and they’re potty trained, too – but nothing beats a good snuggle with Dixie. My life is SO much better just because of one little bird.

10 Fictional Cats We Want As Pets

I love cats. I very much intend on becoming an old cat lady someday. Real cats are pretty cool. They sleep on your head at night, have serious ninja skills, and aren’t super needy like dogs. However, fictional cats have a little more to offer as pets. Most of them can talk, some of them have magical powers, some of them even fight crime. Who doesn’t want a cat with an unyielding sense of morality? This goes without saying but all of these cats seem to have way more interesting lives than I do and if I can just get a slice of that pie my memoirs would be a lot more interesting!

CatDog

I’ll take Cat from CatDog because you get two pets in one. Although that whole thing where when one eats and the other instantly pukes is a little gross.

Garfield

A cat who loves food as much as I do? A cat who is as cynical as I am? A cat who loves the city just like me? We’d go on so many adventures. Probably not, we’d probably just sit around eating Italian food all day . . .

Salem

Who wouldn’t want a bewitched cat who makes snarky comments all day? Oh, he’s just so cute.

Puss In Boots

I’d like a kitty who can hold his own in battles. I plan on engaging in a ton of fairy tale-like wars. Any cat who can introduce me to Humpty Dumpty isn’t staying at the kitty pound for very long.

Cheetara

I don’t know if I am allowed to keep Cheetara as a “pet” but I would definitely want her as a BFF or a big sister. She is way cooler than I will ever be. She has an amazing wardrobe (would love to borrow those leggings!) and crazy speed (can you run to the store and grab me a brownie during the commercial break?).

Oliver

Squee! Oliver, no one wanted you but I wanted you! One of my favorite Disney movies about a kitten taken in by stray dogs. All he wanted was a home and a family! Me too, Oliver, me too!

Aristocats

Two words: Scat Cat. Not going to lie, the constant meowing can get a little old. A cat who can get down with sweet jazz tunes like Scat Cat is always welcome.

Tom and Jerry

The old game of cat and mouse. Tom and Jerry never successfully defeat each other so their constant warfare will probably destroy my apartment, but it’s totally worth it to watch their schemes play out.

Felix The Cat

Felix and his magical bag of tricks. People seem to keep trying to steal it but it never works out. If he were my cat, maybe I’d have a shot at what’s inside?

SWAT Kats

I loved this show as a kid. I wouldn’t dare put a leash (I guess you don’t put leashes on cats anyway?) on Razor and T-Bone. These two flew around in a jet fighter and rebelled against an evil government. Any cats that could probably win The Hunger Games are ones that I want nuzzled at the edge of my bed.

Mr. Mistoffelees

Cats: The Musical is sort of creepy, but I always had a soft spot for Mr. Mistoffelees. The magician cat is the only who doesn’t sing and he can do some serious back flips.
