4. Pretty Little Liars: the books and the show are filled with infinite secrets and lies. Alison DiLaurentis is killed and her four best friends are haunted by a mysterious “A”. Aria, Spencer, Hanna and Emily are stalked by A who wants to get revenge on them for what Ali did. But we don’t know what that is! A does terrible things to the girls and threatens to expose their secrets.

5. The Da Vinci Code: Symbologist Robert Langdon and Sophie Neveu investigate a murder at the Louvre Museum, which takes them on a quest for the Holy Grail. But along the way they find out that the Holy Grail is not actually a grail, but a descendant of Jesus and proof of his relationship with Mary Magdalene.

I spent the other night planning out what movies are premiering every weekend from now until mid-July. I’m obsessed, but I thought I had my movie going adventures all figured out for the next four months. Well, I just learned I have to make a new addition.

Entertainment Weekly got the exclusive scoop that the movie Tiger Eyes – based on the book of the same name by Judy Blume - will be released on June 7! This is now moving to the top of the list for that weekend.

The book originally came out in 1981 and it’s about Davey Wexler, who moves with her family to New Mexico in the wake of her father’s death. In the movie, Davey is played by Willow Holland, who you may know from her TV roles on The OC, Gossip Girl and now Arrow). Also, Kimberly the pink Power Ranger (aka actress Amy Jo Johnson) plays the lead character’s mom. This seriously just keeps getting better.

After reading this EW scoop, I’m pretty excited for a couple reasons. First, can you believe this is the first book of hers to be made into a feature movie?! I can’t! She’s one of our most well-known writers going, so I think that’s pretty shocking. Second, Judy Blume co-wrote the screenplay, so my fears that this could end up like a bad TV movie have been cast aside. And how’s this for a fun fact? She co-wrote it with her son, and he directed the movie, too. Neat, huh?

Judy Blume was recently featured in the PBS Makers special (seriously, catch a re-run) and her books have tackled all sorts of “taboo” topics (periods, sex, masturbation, take your pick!). She had four books on the ALA’s Most Banned/Challenged Books list from 2000-2009, which in my eyes, makes her a a rockstar.

I will admit that Tiger Eyes is actually one of the Judy Blume books that I never got around to reading, but based on her other ones I’ve read, I have no doubt it is top quality. I actually re-read Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret about two years ago. While I had remembered it as “that book about periods,” taking a second look at it revealed so many additional layers about religion and family dynamics. It just speaks to Judy Blume as a writer that she can make a story that really connects with readers on a number of topics and at different points.

I have high hopes for this one because I would love to see some of her other great books made into quality movies in the future. Perhaps Here’s To You Rachel Robinson? Maybe Forever? The point is there are a lot of choices, and I feel like when I go get Tiger Eyes at the library to prep for the movie, I’m going to end up checking out a whole bunch of other Judy Blume favorites.

The more I thought about it, I realized that books are pretty much better than boys in a lot of ways. So here are 10 reasons why you should go to bed with a book instead of a boy tonight.

1. Books are better for your brain. Reading exercises your mind, which makes you smarter and more productive.

2. Books smell better. Have you ever sniffed a book? It smells amazing! New books smell like freshly printed paper and old books have a timely, musty scent. Much better than a sweaty boy.

3. Books are straightforward. Books say what they mean, unlike boys who often say one thing and mean something completely different.

4. Books are low pressure. Boys tend to rush us like when we’re getting ready or sometimes they pressure us to move too fast. With a book, you can go at your own pace. You can even put it down and pick it back up later.

5. Books take you on better dates. A book can take you to Paris, Italy, Hogwarts or some far off land you’ve never heard of. A boy will take you to the local pizza shop.

6. Books tell better stories. Obviously. Boys tell stories about their bros and the time they ate an entire large pizza in ten minutes. Snooze.

7. Books last longer. A good book can keep you up all night. A boy…well he might keep you up for an hour. Maybe.

8. Books are always there for you. Boys can be there for you too, but there’s nothing like escaping a problem with your favorite characters. And they aren’t going anywhere, while your man is itching to go play video games.

9. Boys in books are better. Ever fallen in love with a character from a book? Mr. Darcy, anyone? Exactly.

10. Books give great advice. The things characters go through might mimic what’s happening in your life, and you can gain a lot of insight where a boy probably doesn’t know the right thing to say.

This morning I saw that Scholastic Books is giving Harry Potter Polyjuice potion a cover makeover for the 15 year anniversary of the series!

My heart fluttered at the idea of new books to collect, but I also was a little skeptical of revamping the original covers because they’re so perfect.

Once I saw the art for Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone, however, I fell in love. All seven books are getting makeovers by graphic artist Kazu Kibuishi, author and artist of the graphic novel series, Amulet. Kibuishi said, “I wanted it to feel whimsical.”

Whimsical indeed! This first cover is gorgeous, magical and J.K. Rowling-approved. Kibuishi said he was nervous about what she would say, but “When I heard that she enjoyed it, I was happy. Now that she’s happy, I’m going to sail my way to the end of this thing.”

The new versions of the books will be released in September, and I cannot wait to pick up my copies!

I mean seriously, why was I skeptical at all? You can never have too much Harry Potter.

I am in love… with libraries. In the fifth grade, I used to go to school early so that I could work with the librarian to check returned books in (yeah, I had a lot of responsibility. No big deal). I biked to our local library a few times a week every summer, and I also volunteered at a library all throughout college.

So all that said, I read about this planned “bookless” library in Texas with mixed emotions. It’s called BiblioTech and you can kiss your outdated visions of a library with actual books goodbye. Instead, there will be a bunch of technology options, like computers to use in the actual building and even e-readers that can be checked out. Side note: There must be a lot of trust in that community because those things are not cheap (this is coming from someone who stepped on their e-reader). BiblioTech is set to open in the fall and the mock-up photos do look really cool. They just don’t scream “library” to me.

I really went back and forth forrrreeevvvveerrrr about buying my e-reader. Yes, I am kind of cheap, but I also love just holding a book in my hand and flipping the pages. But even with my frequent library trips, I had been buying so many books that I didn’t need. It seemed like instead of cluttering up my room, having my reads on a digital device was the way to go. It may sound dumb, but I really felt like it was a super personal and challenging decision, especially as a writer. Do I basically turn my back on print or fall behind as things change?

I have checked out a couple books through the library on my e-reader, but I also just like going and hanging out there. I like scanning the shelves, picking out ones at random (yes, I guess I do judge some books the cover) and making an on-the-spot decision. It’s great how easily we can search for books on computers now, but there’s something fun about stumbling onto one and feeling like you discover it. With computer-based searches so common now, it kind of loses the magic.

Even though many of us are pretty savvy with computers, there’s a whole lot of people who aren’t and it can put them at a real disadvantage. A local official told NPR that BiblioTech is trying to address that lack of access and make this new library a site for technology education, which I think is so important. I totally understand that technology is the future and we need to help everyone stay up to date, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not a little sad about what will happen to my dear friends the books.

For now, I guess I’m most comfortable having a nice mix of digital and print reading material in my life. Even though I’ve bookmarked the best scenes in my e-book copy of Little Women, I still prefer to grab my copy off my shelf and find all those favorite pages I’ve marked up. Of course, I guess this doesn’t really apply to library books since you shouldn’t write in them to begin with… but quick thanks to everyone who ever wrote notes in the margins of books I checked out for school. I owe you.
