Why do men like breasts? Or, more specifically, why do some guys like big boobs more than smaller boobs? I think it’s safe to say that we’re all pretty curious to know exactly what it is about boobs (which are really just pockets of fat) that drive some men crazy.

But can there ever really be a clear answer to the question of why some men like bigger boobs? After all, isn’t everyone attracted to different things? Is it really true that certain groups of people are attracted to certain things? Basically, is there really a science behind physical attraction? According to a few different studies, yes – Psychology Today recently posted an article about why certain men like bigger breasts and the results are kind of surprising.

So, why are some dudes really into D-cups while some dudes dig A-cups? According to one study, men who don’t have a lot of money are more into big boobs while men who are more financially secure like smaller boobs.  Doesn’t it sound crazy that the amount of money you have could influence what size breasts you like? Um, yeah, it does.

But apparently, one view on female breast size is that it acts as “a signal of fat reserves, which in turn advertises access to resources.” Psychologists tested out this idea by asking men from different socioeconomic backgrounds what size breasts they found more attractive. Sure enough, the idea seemed to be true – the men with less material goods liked bigger breasts more. Why? It sounds like they associate large breasts with more money and resources. Since poorer men are most likely striving for more money, it would make sense that they would like something that symbolizes more money. How do breasts symbolize “more resources?” Honestly, I couldn’t tell you.

The next study found that guys who were hungry were more like to find big boobs more desirable, while guys who were not hungry were more into small boobs. Completely random, right? Apparently this study was based on the evolutionary perspective that breasts are a sign of a woman’s ability to have and take care of kids. To tell you the truth, I’m still pretty confused as to how that relates to being hungry or not hungry, but okay. I’ll go with it.

Lastly, researchers tested out this theory even more and discovered that guys who really want to be fathers at some point like bigger breasts, while guys who don’t really want to be dads liked smaller breasts. So, it looks like that evolutionary theory about boobs rings true – it seems that some men do associate larger breasts with a woman’s ability to be a good mom.

So, to recap: guys who like big breasts generally do not have a lot of money, want to be fathers one day and are hungry. Men who like small breasts have a good amount of money, don’t want to be a dad and are not hungry.

Does this sound completely ridiculous to anyone else except me? While I sort of get the science behind each of these ideas, at the same time, I’m having a hard time believing these results. And that’s not only because these studies were pretty small (the dad one only looked at 67 men), but also because it just sounds silly to me. How does hungry and money affect what kind of boobs you like? More importantly, why do we need to know why some dudes like big boobs? Maybe some guys just like the way they feel! Maybe it depends on the girl. I don’t know, I just think there are a lot of other factors to consider.

That being said, these findings were pretty interesting. And so, I want to know what you think about them: do they sound legit or ridic?

Her mom, Tammie, called the school district to discuss what can be done about the situation, and the woman she spoke told her, “they could transfer my daughter and said her boobs were so large she will always get teased. And the only suggestion she had for me is to have my daughter get a breast reduction.“

I’m sorry, WHAT? Just no. This girl is getting harassed at school and nothing can be done except a dangerous surgery to reduce her breast size?! That’s the best solution you have? I can’t even.

Fox2 News went to the school district for comment and they claim the whole thing is a misunderstanding. I find it extremely hard to believe that you can misunderstand someone telling you that your child needs a breast reduction, but what do I know?

The superintendent did call and said they are working to resolve problems for Gabrielle and her little brother, who is also a victim of bullying at school. Hopefully those resolutions don’t involve any other mentions of plastic surgery.

I used to get bullied a lot for my nose. I broke it twice growing up, which left a nice bump. I was always teased, but plastic surgery was never suggested as a solution to bullying and it never should be.

When I was younger, I really wanted big boobs. I would look at my mom’s Victoria’s Secret catalogs and then stare down at my barely-there A-cups and sigh sadly. When I heard someone make a comment about my older cousin M’s impressive D-cups, I turned to my mom and declared that I wanted to “be just like M when I grow up.” On my first day of high school, I wore a padded bathing suit top under my shirt just so my boobs looked bigger.

It just wasn’t fair. My mom, grandma and older cousins were all well-endowed. Meanwhile, at 13-years-old, I was considering the pros and cons of breast enhancement surgery. Every night, I put my Catholic school education to good use by praying for my boobs to grow at least two sizes overnight. (Ugh, so embarrassing!)

It sounds weird, but I was so busy obsessing over the small size of my chest that I didn’t even notice when they actually did grow…until my high school boyfriend pointed it out. One night when we were on the phone, he asked what size bra I wore. I hesitated, then said, “I’m an A-cup”.

He snorted. “No, you’re not Jess. There’s no way.” The next day, I headed to Victoria’s Secret to get fitted. And it turns out he was right – I had grown into a large B-cup. I had no idea when it had happened, but I couldn’t have been more thrilled.

But by my freshmen year of college, I was wearing a 34 D, and I absolutely hated it. I was shy, awkward and quiet and I had no idea why I ever wanted breasts to begin with. I couldn’t stand the way people (mainly guys) stared at my boobs. I avoided push-up bras, v-neck t-shirts, anything strapless and bikinis like the plague. When anyone commented on how big my boobs were, I started blushing and couldn’t stop. I stared enviously at the way clothes draped over flatter girls and wished my breasts would shrink.

Until one day, when I was complaining to a more flat-chested friend about them. She looked at me like I was insane. “Are you kidding me? Do you know what I would do for your boobs?” She then proceeded to go into a long list of reasons why she hated her own A-cups. Looking for someone who would understand, I complained to my best friend, who was the same size as I was. Instead of agreeing with me, she shrugged and said, “I love my boobs. Big boobs are awesome.”

Slowly, I began to embrace my D-cups, and now I can say that 80 percent of the time, I wouldn’t change them one bit. It wasn’t about realizing that being flat-chested stinks, though. There are definitely some days when I wish my boobs were a few sizes smaller – like when I’m scared of flashing people when I’m swimming. Or when I try on a super cute dress, only to see that it fits perfectly everywhere but refuses to zip up over my chest. I can rarely find button-down shirts that actually button, baggy shirts (so comfy!) make me look a lot heavier than I am, and I will never not be annoyed by dudes blatantly staring at my boobs as I walk down a street or try to have a convo with them.

But all in all, I’ve come to realize that they’re pretty great. Honestly, I couldn’t tell you exactly what I like about my boobs. I like how they look in certain clothes (I’ve stopped avoiding v-necks, by the way), and when I’m feeling down about my bod, they give me a big confidence boost. Yeah, we have a total love/hate relationship going on, but mainly I appreciate them.  I feel like my body wouldn’t be my body without them, you know?

Then something happened that made her so much different from me: she grew breasts. And these weren’t just any breasts–we’re talking big boobs, here. I was pretty little when she started wearing bras, but seem to think she skipped the training bra stage entirely and went to super industrial sized mondo-support monster bras. The cups were big enough that at six and seven years old, I’d tease her by putting them on my head as hats.

Yes, I know. I was a very mature second grader. Whatever.

Anyway, I figured that within just a couple years, my time would come. I’d have a super curvy Jessica Rabbit, Marilyn Monroe, knock-you-out-with-my-knockers kind of figure, too. So I waited. And waited. And waited for my big boobs.

My super-sized rack never arrived. Instead of a diva-esque D-cup, I peaked at an A/B. And holy moly was I annoyed. The strapless dresses my sister had worn that I hoped I’d grow into never fit. In fact, no strapless dresses ever did, unless they were made of spandex, which just showed off how flat I was! Where people (including cool guys) thought my sister was older than she really was because of her big boobs, people (including cool guys) thought I was a baby because of my tiny ones!

Now that I’m older, I realize that having big boobs didn’t make my sister’s problems any smaller than mine. While I was frustrated and sick of being treated like a baby, she was getting all kinds of unwanted sexual attention from creepsters–including a mall Santa at Christmastime–when she was still just a kid! And where I can’t wear strapless dresses or certain halter-style tops, she can’t wear most button-up tops or ever get away without wearing a bra.

And as for those “cool guys” who used to give her attention because of her figure and ignore me because of my tiny top? I think my sister and I have both realized that the coolest guys of all are looking for way more than perfect breasts in a girlfriend (although a certain boyfriend of mine wanted me to say that he thinks mine are great!).

I wish I hadn’t been so mean to my sister about her body–and that I hadn’t been so mean to myself about mine, either. Body snarking is way too freaking common among girls–in fact, I’d be willing to bet that most girls spend more time thinking about and talking about other girls breasts than dudes do–and it’s really just stupid.

You know why? Here’s the secret: It’s your confidence, not your cup size that makes you beautiful. I just wish I’d known that a long, long time ago.
