But anyway. While I was watching Freaks and Geeks, I started thinking about Lindsay and Nick as a sort-of couple and I sort of started wishing I could be included in the little thing they had going on, or that at least I could replace Lindsay. Then I started thinking about other ’90s fictional couples I wouldn’t have minded being a part of. And so… here are my 10 favorite ’90s TV couples, from the obvious to the maybe not as obvious. Admit it – you’d totally switch places with some of these people for a few days.

DJ & Steve from Full House

Yes, these two end up breaking up, but I think they sort of get back together… right? Not only did I used to be totally jealous of D.J. and Steve’s relationship, but I was basically just jealous of D.J. in general and wanted whatever she had. This totally relatable relationship is the kind of first love a lot of us have always wanted.

Sabrina and Harvey from Sabrina The Teenage Witch

Sabrina and Harvey have such a dramatic ending – they break up, find other people, almost get married (Sabrina)… and then magically reunite! It’s so romantic and wonderful, although kind of mean if you think about it. But still – exciting!

Zack and Kelly from Saved By The Bell

Not going to lie, this is kind of a complicated love story that I have trouble following because my dad didn’t like when I watched Saved By The Bell, so I pretty much had to watch it in secret. But regardless of the fact that I didn’t know this couple super well, I always wanted to be a part of it. Zack and Kelly are adorable together.

Lindsay and Nick from Freaks and Geeks

Okay, honestly, Nick was way too nice for Lindsay. Lindsay was like this wanna-be wild child, and Nick was sort of wild but was really a nice guy at heart. And to me, Linds always seemed so stuck on Daniel. It was like, Lindsay, get your head together! I mean, I would have been more than willing to take her place.

Ross and Rachel from Friends

I mean, obviously. Guys – Ross and Rachel are iconic to me. I know they had a ton of ups and downs, but when they were together, they were perfect! They were meant to end up together. He said her name during his wedding to that horrible English girl. Come on!

Buffy and Angel from Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Speaking of iconic, here’s Buffy and Angel. I like to think of them as the ’90s version of Edward and Bella, but so much better. This was forbidden love at it’s best, ladies.

Angela and Jordan from My So-Called Life

I guess we don’t really know exactly what happened between Angela and Jordan, but I like to imagine they lived happily ever after in cute couple bliss. This was a seriously relatable high school couple and I loved every second of it.

Brenda and Dylan from 90210

Although we never officially saw this on-again/off-again couple get together for realz, we pretty much know they ended up together and are possibly living together in London in some TV reality land. How awesome, right?

Rebecca and Uncle Jesse from Full House

They may be a little older than any other couple on this list, but that doesn’t mean they don’t belong here. There’s only one woman I’d allow to steal Uncle Jesse, and that’s Rebecca.

Cory and Topanga from Boy Meets World

Do these two even need an explanation? Cory and Topanga are basically the ultimate ’90s couple – important enough to get their own spin-off years later. Their love might be hard to believe, since they were teenagers, but whatever. Still perfect.

Considering Kurt Cobain wasn’t a fan of commercialism in music, despite Nirvana being one of the most influential and successful bands in history, we don’t think he’d be too stoked about this. His widow, Hole singer and infamously hot mess Courtney Love, is in talks to bring her life with Kurt Cobain, as well as Nirvana’s song catalog, to the Broadway stage.

As if that weren’t bad enough? The news was revealed in court by none other than creepmeister Sam Lutfi. As in, the Sam Lutfi who is currently at war with Britney Spears‘ parents and being accused of being a drug pusher and all-around bad dude. Seriously, is there anything right with this picture? Because we can’t find anything.

Considering Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love were hounded by the media in their business for most of their time together, it’s a little insensitive to his memory for her to put him in the spotlight again–he was really reluctant to be there in the first place when he was alive.

Quite a few movies and theories about Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain have been made–they were essentially the 1990s grunge version of the legendary trainwreck punk couple Sid and Nancy: Last Days and Courtney and Kurt, specifically. We can understand why Courtney would want to tell her side of the story, but is it really a good idea? She’s had such an insane rollercoaster since his death, especially with their daughter Frances Bean Cobain, that it may be best to just leave things alone and quit capitalizing on something so tragic and toxic.

That and we just can’t wrap our heads around turning “Smells Like Teen Spirit” into a show tune. We don’t think Kurt Cobain would want to be associated with jazz hands.

Looking back on some older movies, there are tons of amazing dances I wish I had been invited to, whether they were in films from the ’70s or the early ’00s. Carrie

I know this is actually a pretty creepy horror movie, and maybe you don’t want to be involved with all that, but still… let’s just think about how insane/horrifying/interesting it would be to watch someone get covered in pigs blood. More horrifying than interesting, you say? Yes, you may be right.

A Cinderella Story

I’m a sucker for this admittedly so-bad-it’s-good Hilary Duff movie. The Halloween dance in this film makes me wish my school had Halloween dances – how much fun would that be?! From all of the awesome costumes, the pretty setting and the fairytale storyline, I really wouldn’t mind if I went to a Halloween dance exactly like this one.

Pretty In Pink

The above scene alone makes me want to attend this prom, with Duckie by my side the entire time. Also, there’s something so cute about Andie creating her own pink prom dress. I just want to be there with her, you know?

10 Things I Hate About You

I swear Heath Ledger is not the only reason I wish I had been involved in this high school prom. Other reasons include really wanting to see some jerk teen boy get the punch in the face he deserves. And the amazing band they had. And, um, Heath Ledger.

Grease

This is my number one favorite movie dance scene of all time. All I want is to go back in time and be at this dance – if it were real. The dance moves, the awesome old-school outfits, the adorable shenanigans… I could watch this every day. And I have.

Never Been Kissed

After watching this movie, I decided that every prom should have a very specific theme other than to just go buy a fancy expensive dress and wear it. I’m obsessed with the theme of this prom (Meant To Be, famous couples) and that’s basically why I wish I could have gone to this. I would also love to witness a “student” admit that she’s actually undercover. How crazy would that be?!

She’s All That

Wait, can Usher be the DJ at every school dance ever? Also, can all students always know the exact choreography to a song and dance in unison? Think about how seriously cool your school dances would be if this happened.

Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion

Who wouldn’t want to go to a dance with these two hilarious goofballs? If I were invited to this reunion dance, I would totally wear a shimmery dress along with Romy and Michele. Also, imagine how epic it would be to do a dance in front of everyone?

Footloose

Has there ever been a more epic dance movie then Footloose? The answer is no. And the prom scene is the best – I wish I could have been there to see everyone dancing together for the first time in a long time.

It’s A Wonderful Life

There is so much more to this movie then just the Christmas element! Like, for example, the amazing school dance scene. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be at a dance where the floor opens up and a pool is revealed? And everyone jumps in! Coolest school dance ever.

It’s not even like these stars played small roles on small shows – actually, most of them played pretty important roles on super popular shows. It’s just that I can’t seem to remember they ever existed until I see a picture of them… and then I wonder how I could have ever forgotten about them. Scott Weinger

How could I forget about Steve from Full House?! I don’t know, but I did, and I’m pretty sure a lot of other people did too. Besides being one of the best TV boyfriends ever, Scott was also the voice of Aladdin (best job ever?). Since then, he’s done a few guest starring roles, but mainly he just sticks to showing you the world. Shining. Shimmering. Splendid.

Karyn Parsons

Karyn played Hillary Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and it’s hard to believe that I could ever forget her hysterical character. But since the show ended, she’s pretty much dropped off the radar… which basically explains exactly how I forgot about her.

Nate Richert

Harvey was totally another one of the best TV boyfriends all time… yet I can never seem to remember him on Sabrina The Teenage Witch (maybe it’s because all I remember is that talking cat). Anyway, since the show ended, it doesn’t seem like Nate did anymore acting. Instead, he got into singing – check it out!

Andrew Keegan

Once you see Andrew’s face, you should recognize him as the guy who played Jessica Biel’s boyfriend on 7th Heaven. Although he wasn’t on the show for the entire series, he did play a big part in it – but somehow, I always forget she ever dated him in the show. Oh, he also made appearances on Step By Step, The Amanda Show, Sabrina The Teenage Witch and more. Andrew’s best role was definitely his part in 10 Things I Hate About You, but since then, he’s been pretty absent from the Hollywood scene.

Jenna Von Oy

When I think of Blossom, the first thing I think of is, well, Blossom… and Joey Lawrence, obviously. It’s not the fast-talking Six, who I should remember, because she’s totally awesome. Jenna has done a few small acting roles since then and she’s also released a country music album. Come back to TV, Jenna!

Zachery Ty Bryan

When you remember Home Improvement, you probably remember Tim Allen and Jonathan Taylor Thomas first… or at least I do. But Zachery Ty Bryan played Brad Taylor, and he was so cute, I feel bad for not remembering him. After the show, Zachery had a few small roles in other shows and movies, like The Fast and the Furious. Now, he does some producing, but we haven’t seen his face on a big screen in a while.

Kellie Shanygne Williams

It seems impossible that I could have forgotten about the actress who plays the love of Steve Urkel’s life, but I did… and I’m sure I’m not the only one. After Family Matters, it looks like Kellie stopped acting. But she did create a program called the Kellie Williams Program, which helps teens create their own television program.

David Gallagher

7th Heaven had so many characters that it’s really not our fault that we can’t remember all of them. And I say our, because I can’t be the only one, right? David played Simon, who was actually one of my favorites, but I just can’t seem to remember him when I think of the show. Besides a few small acting gigs, David has been doing the voices for video games, which might be one of the coolest jobs ever.

Tammy Lynn Michaels

In all fairness, it’s not just Tammy I always forget about it… it’s the show Popular in general. But every time I remember it, I get SO happy, because it was amazing and deserved more seasons. And in case you forgot like I did, Tammy was a regular cast member. Today, she’s married to Melissa Etheridge and has a weblog.

Sean O’Neal

This is another character who I loved, and still love, but I just forget about him all the time. There’s not much about Sam out there… I’m guessing he quit show business after Clarissa Explains It All. Sad!

Larisa Oleynik

Okay, honestly, I always forget about this show. I know it was one of my favorites when I was younger, and whenever I see clips I start to remember, but I just can’t keep it in my head. Did anyone else forget about Larisa Oleynik? After The Secret World of Alex Mack and 10 Things I Hate About You, she’s only done small roles… so I can’t be the only one, right?

Matthew Lawrence

I LOVE Boy Meets World, so I can’t believe I forgot about one of the guys! Matthew played Sean’s long-lost brother, and they have to be two of the hottest brothers on TV ever. You probably also recognize him from Mrs. Doubtfire and The Hot Chick.

The only thing (may be) better than these delicious retro foods? The crazy commercials. Yeah, you might be able to still buy a few of these things (although a lot of them have been discontinued), but you definitely won’t see these commercials on TV tonight. Watch our favorite old commercials, which were just as extreme as the foods, and tell us: which was your favorite?

Sound Bites

This has to be the most hi-tech lollipop ever – not to mention the most ’90s commercial ever. When I was a kid, I thought this might have been the most amazing technology I had ever seen (that was before iPads, okay?), and I guess it was pretty cool… but now that I think about it, who really needs a lollipop that sings “in your head”?
 

Gushers

Gushers are delicious and wonderful, and if I could find them in a store, I would buy a minimum of 1 million packages of them. I’m sure I’m not alone on this – just watch the commercial, they’re even newsworthy! It just seemed so different: you got a chewy candy AND a burst of fruity liquid.
 

PB Crisps

I love this peanut man. I want him to be in every commercial ever. And, um, why don’t they sell these anymore? No, seriously, why? They were only one of the most amazing snacks ever. So much peanut butter. So much deliciousness.
 

Butterfinger BB’s

This is such an old-school commercial and I can basically follow along with all of the words. Butterfinger BB’s were awesome because they were tiny versions of a candy bar. Yup, that’s pretty much it. Oh, and Bart Simpson loved them – so that obviously up-ed their cool factor.
 

Reeses Puff Cereal

Making candy into cereal? Who knew you could do such a thing?! Eating healthy cereals full of fiber and fruit was not popular in the ’90s. What was popular? Eating the most disgustingly sugary cereals you possibly could, ones that had absolutely no nutritional value whatsoever. We’re looking at you, Reese’s Puffs, Rice Krispie Treats cereal, Pop Tarts cereal and Oreo-O’s.
 

Mentos

Yes, I know… you can still buy Mentos, like, everywhere. But you definitely cannot get this Mentos commercial back. The Mentos commercials were sooo much better years ago – and the idea of Mentos just seemed so much cooler: a mint you could chew! It was kind of amazing.
 

Blow Pops

Again, I know you can still buy Blow Pops everywhere (thank God for that), but between the clothes and the silly props, I feel like they just don’t make commercials like this anymore. Also, just like with Mentos, the idea of Blow Pops was so much more awesome back then than it is now. I mean, a lollipop that ended in gum? It doesn’t get much better than that.
 

Wonder Ball

Only one thing comes to mind when I think of Wonder Balls: “Oh, I wonder, wonder, what’s in a Wonder Ball?” And that, my friends, is thanks to commercials like this one. It’s catchy enough to get stuck in your head for literally years.
 

Sprinkle Spangles

I had totally forgotten about these until I saw the commercial, but now I want them back – badly. I mean, cereal that sparkles?! These must be so bad for you, but so good at the same time. And that, sadly, is the reason these were a ’90s food. So not parent-friendly.
 

Fruit By The Foot

Fruit By The Foot is still going strong, but I couldn’t resist not including this commercial. The t-shirts eating the snack? This is such a classic. And I love how making it Tie Dye makes it that much cooler.
 

Pepsi Blue

This was perhaps the best Pepsi ever. It was blue! There’s not much more that needs to be said. I just wish this commercial featuring old-school Britney Spears was longer…
 

Ecto Coolers

I think we all already know how cool Ecto-Coolers are. But do you know how cool the commercial is? The spooky grocery store combined with the Ghostbusters theme and this kids ’90s haircut… it’s perfect!
 

Go Gurt

Yogurt that you can eat without a spoon! Oh, ’90s. Only you would create such a convenient and gross food. I love how they show this kid effortlessly eating it on a bike. Do you know how many times I tried to do that? And do you know how many times I majorly failed?
 

Life Saver Holes

In case you wondering what happened to the hole part of a Life Saver candy… this commercials gives you some answers. The holes are pretty wild, guys. I wouldn’t mind joining their little candy party.
 

3D Doritos

Ignore how terrible this commercial is (except it is pretty cool that Ali Landry can catch flying Doritos in her mouth)… I am still mourning the loss of these 3D Doritos. Come back to me. I’ll even take this awful commercial.

Doug was a little (okay, a lot) awkward and maybe he was kind of a nerdy dude – but he was THE coolest nerdy dude ever. Seriously, how can you not have a crush on Doug?! I can’t even decide what’s cuter – his love for Patty Mayonnaise, his Quailman alter-ego or his love of music. Doug would make an awesome, if clumsy, BF.

Daria from Daria

Daria is that sarcastic, cynical girl who you’re kind of intimidated by, but who you also wish you could be like. She’s never afraid to say what she feels, and her attitude is all about not caring what anyone else thinks – which is exactly what has always made her one of our Gurl crushes.

Arnold from Hey Arnold!

Is it weird to have a crush on a nine-year-old cartoon character? Um… okay, well, let’s just pretend he’s older than that. Arnold might be a total goofball with a football-shaped head, but I can totally see why Helga is so into him – he’s the sweetest football-head ever!

Eliza Thornberry from The Wild Thornberrys

Eliza can speak to animals. I shouldn’t have to explain any further than that. I can’t decide if I want to be her, if I have a crush on her, or if I just want to be her BFF. It’s pretty much a combination of all three. Plus, Eliza makes braces and pigtails look cooler than anyone else.

Max Goof from Goof Troop

I can’t be the only one who had a huge crush on Max, whether you watched him in Goof Troop or the amazing movie A Goofy Movie. And I also can’t be the only one who was seriously jealous of Roxanne. I mean, who doesn’t want a dude who sings songs about you?

Pepper Ann from Pepper Ann

Pepper Ann is seriously the coolest redhead with glasses ever (besides Eliza, of course). She’s strong-willed, brave and never afraid to speak her mind – all of that makes her total crush material.

Otto Rocket from Rocket Power

I’ll admit, I have a weakness for dudes who skateboard (come on, who doesn’t?!), and Otto is no exception. Okay, so maybe he’s a little into himself, and maybe he gets himself into a lot of trouble… but it’s fine. I can forgive that. Plus, he always does the right thing when it comes down to it – and he can surf and skate board. Major points!

Gerald from Hey Arnold!

We’ve already established that Arnold is crush material, but his best friend Gerald is right there with him. He’s always the voice of reason, and of course, his huge hair is seriously cool. I have to admit, I was always a little jealous of his crush on Phoebe.

Sailor Moon from Sailor Moon

Sailor Moon wears the coolest outfit ever, has awesome hair even when she’s fighting evil and kicks some serious butt. What’s not to love?! Oh, and she has a talking cat. It doesn’t get much cooler than that.

T.J. Detweiler from Recess

He might not look like much in his old baseball hat, but T.J. has the potential to be a total babe when he gets older. He was my hero as a kid, always going against the rules of school and adults. I mean, nobody doesn’t like T.J. – he makes sure of that.

Bubbles from The Powerpuff Girls

It was a tough choice between Bubbles, Bubbles, and Blossom, but Bubbles came out on top… she proves that you can be adorable and girly and still kick ass when fighting off the bad guys.

Reggie Rocket from Rocket Power

When I was younger, a bunch of my guy friends used to say that they had a cartoon crush on Reggie – and I can totally see why. Reggie can skateboard and surf just as well as any dude on that show – maybe even better. And what about her magazine, The Zine? She’s a total inspiration.
