Apparently, my brother, sister, and I were horrible children who needed strict creative discipline to keep us in line. Yep, I sure was a horrible, straight-A student, Girl Scout, community volunteer. A problem child, really.
One rule she inspired my dad to create was "Shower Time."
"Shower Time" meant that showers in my house were timed with a kitchen timer. Each of the kids were allowed one five-minute shower per day. I did not grow up during a drought or with a small water heater. It was simply a rule she made up that we had to follow.
The five minutes of shower time started when the water was turned on, with no time allowed for adjusting the temperature. When I was quick enough to take a shower that lasted less than five minutes, the leftover time was added to my "shower tally"--a written record of our shower times she kept every day.
