Beagley Romp is a dog who has been with me for many years. His name was originally just Beagley because I always had an obsession with Snoopy. (Beagle with a "y" at the end was my way of Snoopifying the stuffed animal.)
Romp was added to his name at sleepaway camp because he used to romp around the bunk, from bed to bed. All of the other girls started to call him Beagley Romp, and he didn't mind and neither did I, so his full name became Beagley Romp.
The privilege of going with me to camp was significant. Beagley was the likely candidate because of his size. He was big enough to get my arms around, but not so big that he would take up more of my bed than I would.
Also, because he was always lying on his stomach with his legs out, he was somewhat flat. This position made him excellent to use as a pillow. He boosted me up just enough to read or write letters in bed.
This dual pillow functionality was perfect at camp, where the pillows weren't so great. Nonetheless, I use him at home as a pillow even though the pillows are good. It's just nice having my head against something soft.
(Also, as a bonus, Beagley has these big, floppy ears which are fun to flip-flop over each side of his head, or tie in a bow, or roll up, or cover his eyes with.)
I mentioned that he was big enough to give a substantial hug. Being able to hug back was/is a very important feature of a stuffed animal for me. Beagley could always sling one of his outstretched arms around my shoulder, which was essentially his way of hugging me while I was hugging him.
Beagley still has a place on my bed, as a pillow and a hugger.
