make a jack-o-lantern

1) Choose a pumpkin with no nicks or bruises and a sturdy kitchen knife.
2) Cut a circle around the stem of the pumpkin,making sure the hole is big enough to stick your arm through. Scoop out the seeds and pulp with your hands or a spoon. (Save the seeds to roast later for a snack.)
3) Draw a simple design for the face on a piece of paper, holding it up to the pumpkin to make sure it will fit.
4) Poke holes through the paper with a nail or straight pin to trace the design onto the pumpkin.
5) Remove the paper and cut along the design with the knife.
6) Set up your pumpkin in a window or outside so that it can be seen by trick-or-treaters. Wedge a small candle inside, and light it up!
SAFETY TIP: Never leave the pumpkin unattended.
