#6
I had a volunteer shift at our local food co-op and one day while I was washing lettuce and singing to myself, one of the co-op staff members, who happened to also have a very small record label and recording studio, introduced himself to me. We made fast friends and he offered to record me at his studio, as he was impressed with how nicely I sang while washing the lettuce.
Lesson number six: Find out about your recording options. Talk to people you know who play music. Besides playing shows, recording and sharing or selling the recordings is one of the best ways for people to hear your music. There are lots and lots of home-recording studios out there, friends of friends who would be excited to record you for free or very little. People who take care to have a bunch of microphones and mixing consoles around love to use them. You don't need to release your very first recordings, though you can. Use recording as a means to learn about how to make the music you most want to hear.
