The Olympia music scene was specifically supportive of young women musicians and artists getting out and being loud and heard, but I mostly just sat at home in my bedroom and wrote songs on my acoustic guitar. I didn't think my music fit in very well with the musical aesthetic popular amongst most of my peers. My songs were melodic and quiet. I didn't do much yelling or screaming.
Lesson number two: Not all music has to be loud. Loud isn't the only way to express yourself and be heard. You might just be a strong person who makes quiet music, like me. If loud is how you feel, be loud! If soft is how you feel, be soft! But always be authentically and proudly yourself.
