Question
What do you think it takes to understand make-up?
Answer
Knowledge of skin types is very important when working with make-up. I always make sure all make-up I use is hypoallergenic. Also, colors and how they would compliment someone's features correctly is really important. I also clean all my tools before and after I use them on each client. Sanitation is very important to me.

Question
What was high school like for you? Were you always stylin'?
Answer
High school was fun. I was always voted into the yearbook for "craziest hair" or "most fun style." I was a total art freak nerd. One year, I was in the yearbook with a huge Diana Ross afro. Looking back at it now, that was my favorite hairstyle I've ever had, besides my Mohawk freshman year in college.

Question
What kind of hair and make-up did you wear for prom?
Answer
I never went to my prom. I did go to the homecoming dance one year and I wore a bright red wig with a furry pink cowboy hat. I'm sure I looked atrocious. In my senior photo, I cut my hair really short and bleached it white. I looked like an anime character. It was so awesome!

Question
If you didn't do hair and make-up, what else would you do?
Answer
Well I've always been interested in a lot of other things besides hair and make-up. I would not be able to list them all here. I design clothes from my home in Brooklyn and do hair and make-up for various artists and clients.

Aside from attending beauty school, I also graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. I would love to have a salon/boutique/ice cream parlor/bakery one day! People can get a trim and go home with some delicious treats. I know it sounds crazy, but a girl can dream can't she?

Question
What advice do you have for someone interested in being a professional stylist?
Answer
My advice to all the gURL readers would be to always stay positive! We all run into obstacles that make us think, "This is too hard!" or you might feel like wanting to quit. If you truly feel you are meant to be doing a certain thing, I say go for it. You make your own opportunities; they aren't going to come to you. Stay focused and keep your eye on the prize--whatever that may be.
