One chilly day at the French resort town of Deauville, Chanel invented the little sweater set for women.
A fierce wind was blowing in from the English Channel. So she borrowed a polo player's sweater and cinched it up at the waist with a belt. The bulky, layered look was a hit.

Chanel reproduced the outfit in smaller sizes in her shop and women snatched them up.
