Louisa May Alcott's popular trilogy about the March family, "Little Women," "Jo's Boys" and "Little Men," brought her fame but not a lot of money. In order to support herself and her "serious work," Alcott kept busy writing more sensational stories with the pen names of A.M. Barnard, Aunt Weedy, Flora Fairfield, Oranthy Bluggage and Minerva Moody. The serialized tales of A.M. Barnard (mystery, murder, mayhem, oh my!) were especially lucrative.
