It's a very difficult process going through other people's belongings and then throwing them away because they are contaminated and cannot be saved. The hardest part of the gutting process for me was finding photographs.
A lot of photographs were damaged by the flood so when I looked at them I could usually only make out one face in the picture. Other times our crew found pictures that were saved because they were in glass frames.
It was important for me to continually take moments and acknowledge the family whose home we were going through.
