On Monday, August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast, submerging about 80 percent of New Orleans. Over 1,800 people were killed and about one million people were displaced in the most expensive natural disaster to hit the United States.

Citizens around the country came together to help the victims of Katrina and organizations like Habitat for Humanity and Global Green USA donated time, money and (wo)man power to help rebuild the fallen city.

Meet Jaymie. During her week long stay, Jaymie gutted houses with the organization Common Ground Collective. She was just one volunteer out of many to help with the relief efforts.
