"My biggest role model in surfing is Sofia Mulanovich from Peru; I have a few others too. I went on a couple of surfing trips and to a couple different competitions with some of the people I look up to. It was pretty neat. At that point I didn't really care if I won or lost; it was just so cool to be surfing with them. I ended up beating some of them too!"

Alana beat Sofia in the 2005 O'Neil World Cup of Surfing in Hawaii and placed third overall.

"My life goal is to become a pro surfer."
