poetry about nature

nature: island escape--a sonnet

Fern-clad cliffs view ocean aquamarine
Below, the pounding surf still far from reach
Pink cottages capped white, amongst the green
Hibiscus hedged pathways wind to a beach.

Emerald waves, like hands caress pale pink sands
So briefly stay and then slide back to sea.
Gentle breezes sweep over the tropic land
Teasing palms with sweet songs of reverie.
A young girl seeks treasures along the shore,
Her bare arms bronzed by the radiant sun
Turning to gaze at seagulls as they soar
She smiles for a holiday just begun.

Lingering there she holds tightly a shell
Fearing this place she loves so well.
