Mythologically speaking, Daphne was the water nymph, or fairy, that Apollo fell in love with. A week before I was born, my mother had a dream of me, as a little baby with wings splashing around in the embryo, and decided I ought to be named as such. It was her who started my obsession with Greek mythology--she didn't even object to my getting a Pegasus tattoo and dating a blue-haired guy who called himself Zeus. She did insist, though, that as a water fairy I should join swim team.
