I skateboard, and I am the only girl at my school that does it, besides tons of guys. This one guy keeps calling me a poser because of it. He doesn't believe that I skateboard and it really makes me upset and angry. After he calls me a poser or worse it just ruins my day. Any advice?
Well...when girls take up something that mostly guys do, they get defensive, and want to keep that thing to themselves. With skateboarding, you don't see many females who are good at it. I myself skateboard, but guys don't mess with me because they think of me as one of the guys. --Posted by wasting_away 10:31AM EST 03/30/04
Who cares what people call you? Do you like to skateboard? Yeah, I thought so. So what gives? Get involved with some other girls who skateboard. Church, after school clubs. Anything. The world is yours. So take advantage. --Posted by disneybaby 10:31AM EST 03/30/04
First of all, it is really hard for boys to accept that females can do whatever they can do, except better. But you can't let that get to you. You don't have to prove anything to anybody, especially some boy who keeps bothering you. --Posted by love_goddess-1 10:31AM EST 03/30/04
Tell him fine, if that's what he wants to believe he can go ahead. But it's pitiful that he feels the need to pick on you just because he's insecure (even he must know that he's only doing it to make himself feel more "genuine"). --Posted by Topanzia 10:31AM EST 03/30/04
I think that's really cool. I'm the only person in my whole school that skateboards. Whenever that guy calls you a poser it's 'cause he's afraid that a girl might be better at skateboarding than him. Keep on skateboarding and ignore what anyone says. --Posted by sk8er_girl16 10:31AM EST 03/30/04
If it really bothers you, why don't you show the guy what you can do? Then he'll be convinced that you're not a poser. But if it isn't worth all that, just show him how much you do NOT care what he thinks about you. Eventually he will have to shut up. --Posted by ritao 10:31AM EST 03/30/04
