I have really bad back acne and I'm afraid to go to prom. I think everyone will just stare at my back and make fun of me. It happened before so I think it will happen again. I really want to go because the prom only happens once. Should I go? What should I do if people start to stare or make fun of me?
I Know How You Feel!
I have the exact problem. I always am afraid to wear a dress or anything that exposes my back. But you only get one prom, and you shouldn't let back acne stop you from going. Use lots of cover up, only let it dry a bit before putting on the dress. Shawls are always great, or you can wear your hair down so that it covers some of it.
If your back isn't so bad, then get some over-the-counter medicine, like proactive or neutrogena shower wash. I have used those before, and they work great for quick events coming up, but the acne usally comes back if you stop using it. If your acne is really bad, talk to a dermatologist about an oral prescription or topical gel. These usually works for permenant results without much scaring. Just remember that even though you might be worried now about your back, no one is even gonna care because you are all having a great time. Just be yourself and have fun. :-) --Posted by steph1636 09:53PM EST 03/28/07
Cover Up!
Some people might not even notice because they'll be having too much fun to worry about your back. That's exactly what you should be doing too, having fun instead of worrying about your back. I know how you feel, I get very insecure about my body sometimes.
I end up thinking worse things about myself than others do. We are both just paranoid and remember we are our own worse critic.
If it's really bothering you try to find a pretty dress that does not show or expose your back (you can still look and feel sexy and beautiful without bearing your back). Or just wear a pretty shawl that matches your dress. --Posted by milky91 05:56PM EST 03/27/07
Personally, I don't think it matters, because people will be thinking how beautiful you look. They won't be looking at your back, but if you still think that you shouldn't go, maybe choose a dress that covers it more, or wear a shrug or some other fashionable add-on. Either way, I'm sure you'll look wonderful, HAVE FUN GIRL! --Posted by salvepoeta_carol 02:01PM EST 03/27/07
You could always try wearing a dress that doesn't reveal too much of your back. Also, you could try an antibiotic for back acne. I don't know what it's called but I know there is one (my older brother takes it), just ask around. Don't worry, your prom is gonna be GREAT!

Nature's Cure Body Acne Treatment Spray
I know exactly how you feel, that's why I didn't go to my prom. Trust me, if you don't go you'll really wish you had. A couple months ago I started using this stuff called Nature's Cure Body Acne Treatment Spray that you can get at most drug stores for about $8.
It's really easy to use because you just spray it on where you need it, morning and night. It didn't dry out my skin which was amazing because I have super sensitive skin. After about a week of using it you'll really see a change. It might feel like you've got a slight film on your back after it dries, but it really helps soothe the irritation.
If this doesn't work, just try to find a shawl or a fancy little cardigan. Or just forget about anyone who might care about your acne because they're jerks if that's all they can think about! Well, good luck and I hope you end up going to your prom! :) --Posted by theraininspain 10:05AM EST 03/27/07
GO! Don't let ANYTHING stop you!
Hey I have the same problem! I say don't let it stop you! Use some cover-up foundation, it should do the trick! If people start to make fun of you and stare...umm like who gives a crap! It's their problem if it bothers them. They're just too shallow to see how beautiful you face is! --Posted by jitterbug2008 05:14PM EST 03/26/07
You Only Live Once...
I say that you go to the prom (you only have one chance in a lifetime) and hangout with your friends. Don't let something like that ruin your big night. Just block those people out of your mind and have one of the best nights of your life. Don't second guess yourself. You are beautiful no matter what anyone says! Ban self doubt, ban fear, and ban nerves...go to the prom and have a GREAT time! --Posted by sk8tergurl4lyf 03:06PM EST 03/26/07
Honestly
They really won't be paying attention.
It will be dark and you can always find a dress that covers your back. As a teenager you always think that your imperfections are under the spotlight but they really aren't. People really don't pay that much attention. I've learned that from experience and so just go. --Posted by motherteresa 01:54PM EST 03/26/07
I used to have it, but I talked to my doctor and got a prescription for minocycline. It's an oral antibiotic, and a REALLY common treatment- and for me, the acne cleared up in about 3 or 4 weeks. You take the antibiotics for 6 weeks. If there's a lot of scarring, try using waterproof makeup to cover it(make sure you set it with powder too). Just ask a friend to apply it for you.
However, be sure you wash it all off at the end of the night, and clean your pores with toner. If all of that fails, I really doubt it will, you can seriously minimize the breakouts by using Neutrogena body clear acne wash and clean & clear dual action moisturizer (it clears up the acne but doesnt dry out your skin).
Remember that people aren't gonna waste their prom night thinking 'I wonder what her back looks like?'. Keep in mind that you're gonna look so great, everyone's gonna want to look at your FACE - not your back.
