Stupid people...
Nuclear power is the obvious answer to a clean, mostly safe and infinite source of power. Nuclear melt downs can be fatal but they happen so uncommonly that they don't really pose a threat to the envirment. And as for the radiation, people are exposed to large amounts of radition everyday, by tanning, getting X-rayed, or just going outside; plus it really doesn't give off as much radiation as once believed. I am for nuclear power. I hate stupid people that don't even know what they're talking about saying that nuclear bombs are bad...WTF?! It's nuclear POWER everyone, get it straight...

..
People need to do more research on this topic before they jump to conclusions. First of all, the radiation factor.... Unless there's a serious meltdown, the radiation isn't going to harm anyone. You could live right beside a nuclear power plant your entire life and be exposed to less radiation than going to get an x-ray done at the hospital. And sure water, solar and wind are all alternatives to nuclear power, but theres no way they could provide as much power as nuclear energy does. Wind is incredibly expensive, so I don't know what some of you are talking about... To provide as much power as one major nuclear power plant does, there'd have to be one wind mill every kilometre all the way across Canada... Until we come up with another alternative, nuclear power will have to do. There's really nothing better at the moment.

IGNORANCE, IGNORANCE, IGNORANCE
Nuclear power is one of the most efficient, most effective forms of power there is. It is also very clean. Not only this, but essential elements can be extracted from the spent fuel. However, it is expensive to re-enrich the uranium (unless this becomes one of the biggest energy sources in the US) . Nuclear POWER does not mean BOMBS. Research the topic, maybe, and get your heads out of your asses.

The risk of environmental hazards is already there. The earth is already hosting a large amount of radiation. The use of nuclear power will reduce further destruction. A NUCLEAR PLANT CANNOT BLOW UP LIKE A BOMB!, and by replacing the use of fossil fuels with nuclear power we would stop the harmful oil spills. Two of the US' largest imports are cars and oil. Being from a state that does a lot of business in imports/exports, I often hear reports of devastating oil spills. The use of nuclear power would solve this problem. However, the supply of uranium will eventually run out. It may be in our best interest to take two steps forward while we can and convert to other forms of power, such as hydropower, widpower, or electricity.

um hello?
it says nuclear POWER not nuclear BOMB. Nuclear power already accounts for about 20% of this country's energy supply. More than u would think, eh? Sure, the risk of radiation and waste is there, but stright federal laws have been placed on the safety precautions at nuclear power plants. And someday, we are going to run out of fossil fuels. Nuclear energy will be around for a while.

i dont really care

Hey guys...
it said "power" not "bomb" or "war". Way to jump to conclusions. Its peopel like you that make me think this whole site was created to harvest young lefty fem-nazis of america.

here goes
nuclear power makes up about 76% of the nation's emission-free energy. hydro-electricity makes up 22%. solar, geothermal, and others make up 2%. One concern about nuclear power is radiation. this concern simply shouldnt exist. we are exposed to natural sources of radiation every day from the sun, water, etc. radon makes up 22% of our radiation exposure. Nuclear power plants make up 1% of our radiation exposure. More radiation is recieved from getting a single medical x-ray than from living within a 50 mile radius of a nuclear power plant for a year. about the chernobyl and three mile island incidents, many strict rules and regualtions have been added and enforced in the united states since then. the occurence of another such accident is highly unlikely. nuclear power has an average of 75% capacity factor. other energy sources can't touch that. an alternative energy source is greatly needed to end our dependence on fossil fuels for electricity. nuclear isn't lookin too bad. that's all i have to say about that for now.

BIG NO!!!
HELL NO!!! It is DESTRUCTIVE!!! NOT power. If we used weapons as power then what would we be doing if we had actual power. It scares me!

YEA
We need nuclear power in our society today. Although it has been harmful in the past, it is not like something bad happens everyday!

The Half-Life theory
First of all, if you want alternate power, do things that harness and do not damage the world works. Wind, water, solar. All affordable and extremely clean. Nuclear power leaves behind contaminated water used to cool the rods as well as the rods themselves which do decrease in radiation, but always will remain dangerous. And then they just bury them as if the ground around it is a landfill. And for the surrounding people? I live an hour away from a nuclear plant my Dad works for. I asked him once, if there was an emergency, what would I do? Me, an hour away from the sight, from one of it's employees, was told to run the hell away from it. It's messing with nature and contaminating our environment.

ICKY
so bad for the environment DUH!!

We shouldnt even have that stuff
Maybe technology has come too far....maybe we shouldnt even have that stuff. So many lives can be taken.
--Posted by airlesca

Umm...........
Now that we are at war (cause we all no the world NEEDS to be at war and can NEVER take a break from it) and we have bought all the nuclear bombs, lets go blow each other up! Sounds like fun. Not.
--Posted by hartford2

end of the world...
nuclear means bombs... and that means war and death. We should find another source of power... it's to dangerous and risky... look at North Korea... i hope they back off....also the power plants are very expensive... the future seems very dim if the world's gov'ts keeps this up....

Too Dangerous!
Do you know what would happen if a nuclear bomb was dropped? Everyone, first of all, within 14 kilometers would be disintegrated. The heat in a nuclear explosion can get up to 500 million degrees. Then, radiation would come up in clouds, giving people cancer. Also, anyone who breathed in large amounts of the radiation dust would literally melt to death - you would watch your skin and hair fall out as you aged to death.

hummm....
i dont really have to much of a problem with it, i just dont like its uses, and its really poluting the world, and i just wish that man kind would calm down a little bit before we destroy our selves.
--Posted by sk8backwards

i live in new mexico where a lot of nuclear bombs are stored. i don't like it. i HATE the idea of nuclear power, it's disgusting. and it's awful that any one powerful person could just make a descision to wipe out everyone on the planet. and there's the fact that there are enough nuclear weapons to blow up the world 5 times over.
--Posted by checkybaby

hmmm
I don't really like it all too much. It creates nuclear waste and I don't believe it is all that safe.
--Posted by falling89

No....duh
I just dont think we should go that far..i mean destroying our environment and stuff why should we! It kinda scares me a little I just wouldnt feel safe with it. To me, it is just way to risky! I mean cant we just use other options?
--Posted by pixeedust507

.................
Hmm... Why are people getting this confused with the war? Anyway, I think nuclear power is a bit unecessary... Come on, The United States alone has over 110 nuclear power units! We should rely on OTHER forms of energy... It is a bit scary to think that we have plants that produce fuels that have to be disposed of underground or they would kill us all...
--Posted by weezerislovely

uh, no!
Isn't neuclear anything bad for the enviornment? and what if someone dicides to blow up the plant? Ever heard of Hiroshima?
--Posted by everelf

destroying our enviroment
i believe nucelar energy is not nessisary. it's horrible for the enviroment and there many other ways to get energy like hyro-power or solar-power. nucelar power plants are also expensive to the government and take up alot of space.so i say DIS!

If there was nuclear war, there would be nothing.
