i had my sweet 16 last year and it wasnt the best birthday in the world but it was still fun,i was allowed to have a friend over for dinner but my friend didnt show up.this happened the night before and i spent my bday morning angrey at her.but overall,it was preety fun,my friends and i went out for ice-cream then on the weekend i had a party a the movies with my friends and heaps of chocolate so it was still fun despite what happened,i just wish i could of had another one to make up fr how crap my bday was

my sweet sixteen was a blast. it was a big deal to my parents because they're from greece and it's not a tradition there but since it's one here, they wanted me to have one so that i felt that i fit in better in this country. :)

Well from my exsperience this year, ...on my birthday I went to someone elses sweet sixteen. my dad was being an asshole having fun with his brother from out of town and his bro's new wife, and my mother went to work, oh well. I guess it's just another day.

so what you turned sixteen? you should get a bigger party when you turn thirteen because your finally a teen. But why do you have to have a big thing for when you turn 16? like i said, kinda pointless, but a whloe lotta fun.

sweet sixteens are WAY too overdone...and really in the end all it ends up being is one big drama fest...i'm sorry if any of you really buy into the hype that is The Sweet Sixteen Trend...all of this "i MUST have the BIGGEST and BEST party or my life is over" and ">sob< and she totally ruined it by having a better/the same dress!"...like i said i am sincerely sorry if you buy into this load of horse pucky and i offended you but...it needed to be said...

A birthday is a birthday... just like any other day. I didn't have a sweet sixteen or a quincenera (i think i spelt it wrong) because I thought it was dumb, sure it was traditon to be known that you were a woman; but really you are just a teenager. Woman or not. But when I started seeing that sweet sixteen show on MTV, I thought it took out the meaning completely - they were focusing on making a party to be remembered by friends, and they were all rich girls who could afford a palace to have a party at - why dont they show an average girl? Oh, yes, because that is not a fun thing to watch..it has to be all glam and money. Anyways, I dig and dis the sweet sixteen.. congrats to those that had their birthdays :-D

On your 16th birthday I think you should have a nice party with your friends where you chose. You should not flash your cash and invite the whole school leaving out unpopular kids and giving everybody presents and blah. Sweet 16 just make poorer kids feel inferior and they leave out people who aren't so popular. They are just another excuse for rich kids to show off how loaded they are.

Like everyone else said, 16 is sooo random. You don't get to exactly do anything, NOT EVEN DRIVE COS THE DRIVING AGE IS RAISED! *in MA it's 17* Being Filipino, we usually get Debutantes *18th birthdays* and I think that's more meaningful because it's showin you are really an adult. It's extremely formal, and more than clubbin, we have like waltz with the father, then with our escorts, and then with the 18 boys that mean something in our life. Sweet sixteens are just an ecuse to be all that for one day.

From the perspective of MTV...
what they show on MTV with the Super Sweet Sixteens makes me really dislike the whole thing. Everyone is grinding and screaming and being obnoxious. My sixteenth birthday was with a few friends and simple and I had fun without the crazyness.

Why?
I mean, I get having a party on your sixteenth birthday. I even get having them bigger than your normal birthday parties. But Sweet Sixteens are generally excuses to flaunt your money, get everybody drunk, and end up having a sucky night. Isn't it so much worthwhile to have fun than to waste your time trying to impress people with money?

I didn't have a sweet 16 because my birthday is over beach week, and everyone goes to that. I could have gone for my birthday, and had a party down there, but I don't relish a bunch of drunk, stupid people at a party. A fun party, that never made. So instead I'm going all out for my 21st. It's a bigger deal in my family anyway because you're really an adult then. I prefer parties with family than friends.

I dont get how girls fall into the huge trend of sweet sixteens. I didnt have one this year. When I turned sixteen I just had a small get together with my friends. Nothing big at all. And thats how I liked it. To me being sixteen is literally no different than being fifteen. Ya you get to drive but not legally until your seventeen so you have to wait a whole year. Its pointless to have a huge sweet sixteen when your still a kid. Your not an adult yet until your at least eighteen. Thats just my opinion.
