okay.. no matter what this country is today.. who can say without doubt that we would be where we are today without own founding fathers???!!!!!!!! i know that we may not have the same values.. or the same morals.. ect. but.. this is our country!!! we would most likely not be where we are today if the patriots of England.. who established the us.. had not fought for the freedom of this country that i am in right now. the national anthem and the pledge of alligence both represt who we are and what this country was built on!

"God" is Not Mentioned in the Anthem
People who dis the anthem due to religious freedom are mistaken. "God" is not mentioned in the song. "Under God" is in our pledge, which is what you say at school each morning. Please don't think the pledge hinders your regilious freedom. If you don't believe in a higher power, say the pledge, but say "under the sky" or something instead of God! I firmly believe that God should not be taken out of the pledge because His name reflects the faith of our founding fathers and the majority of Americans today.

I am American ... and Proud of it!
To be perfectly honest I can't begin to comprehend why this is even made it onto the list of suggested topics on "Dig or Dis." First, to clarify: not one syllable in the national anthem ever makes even the remotest of allusions to "God" or "religion." The fact that an appalling number of people have misconstrued the Star Spangled Banner as the Pledge of Allegiance is an indication, at least, of the tragic absence of unification and solidarity that we as citiziens of this country are intended to possess.

National Anthem
I rather enjoy singing the song...the high notes can be a challenge. Very fun to sing it at athletic events at school. I see little point in getting after the political/patriotic message of the song, it's so old and barely applies to today's America.

some people are saying that we dont have the same values as people did back when it was written. LISTEN TO THE WORDS... what so proudly we hailed...thats talking about them back then when we won the american revolution and the war of 1812, and the flag still waves with pride. i think its terrible that you people dissing it call yourselves American when you're dissing one of the things that keeps our country patriotic, especially in times like these when its essential to have a feeling of national pride.

The national anthem is good. it shows how us americans have pride in our country. now the pledge of alligence, i think is good, but i dont know about all you other gurls, but in the state of texas we have to stand up for a moment of silence, say the pledge of alligence and then say the alligence to the texas flag. now everyday of that gets old, boring, and kind of annoying.

i don't like the canadian anthem. y stand up, if u don't believe in god? hello... we all don't believe in the same thing... anyways, yeah, i'm sure the "true north" is struggling anyways, but no one notices. other than that... i can't think of anything else to say. if u refuse to stand up becasue"your not canadian" get out of the country! duh, we are a mosaic, not the friggin melting pot like the americans. stand up cause u have better freedoms, stand up because canada is beautiful, stand up because of our natural resources that america wants. and oh yeah, about that american anthem... WAY TOO LONG!!! besides, i'm sure it's full of b.s. in that anthem. if u have so much to gloat about, don't try to make canada's fresh water for everyone!u obviously want it for yourselves....

My dad would kill me if he saw this. Look, it's good to test singing range and lyric memory, but it's all fluff. No depth. Yuck. I prefer America the Beatutiful. there is one verse in The Star Spangled Banner that I love, but, thanks to political correctness, has been removed. If that were the verse we sang, I wouldn't be dissing it. (I'd type it, but it'd be too long. Look it up.)

I do not like it because it forces people to say things that aren't true and some things they don't believe, although I do believe in God, I don't think his name should be mentioned as One nation under God, because not all people believe in him. there's athesists, buddhists, and many others. We need to respect EVERYTHING.

Anyway, it's a song about the flag... how it stood... etc. I hear it too much and it also gives me a headache along with the color pink.
It was a while ago, when it was written. It sounds... terrible... which also makes me want to scream. We should change it to something more NOW.. instead of how great we were back then as our flag still stood there waving and it struck joy in our hearts blah blah...

I don't like our national anthem...the words are pretty haughty and stupid sounding. I love Russia's...they got rid of the words, but it is a beautiful melody, and the old words spoke of ideals and spirit, MUCH more so than ours. How come the other countries got such good national anthems?

not again....
im not hatin on the national anthem...but it is just so ....so...done. I mean it's long , and you have to stand for a long time, i think with your hand over your heart ,and usually hear somebody literally murder the song. It's like they dont want to stop singing, they draw out the notes with the ever famous screeching high note. its not cool for my ears....especially when you cant sing!

i like the whole "one nation under god" thing but what about the rest? when i moved to america, i was bloody terrified when everyone stood up, put their hand on their heart and recited the anthem like an army of clones. i'm happy that they don't make me recite it, even though i noticed peer pressure is the main motivation behind it, neh?
