stem cell research

It's amazing
It's been proven that stem cell research has the potential to create treatments for almost everything. Researchers have helped people with everything from diabetes to leukemia. One group even discovered that stem cells from imbilical cord blood can become brain tissue. Eventually (when G.W. Bush is gone), there will be potential for growing organs needed for transplant. Also, some places are working on allowing parents to store some of the imbilical cord blood from their child's birth in a sort of bank so that it can be used to treat the child for some illnesses in the future, if it's necessary. All of that's pretty fvcking cool if you ask me.

yes
They are alive and never will be. it's alot better than testing on animals. I do not agree with cloning and playing God. I agree with helping the sick. p.s. i am vegan

yes
it can cure soooo many diseases. we cant move forward in the medical world without it
--Posted by wizardofaus

yes
The research we could find from stem cell is so great. and it can help us when finding cures for different deseases and mutations. I don't see we doctors can't just take embryotic fluids from a mother right after the baby is born. It's still good and she doesn't need it.

It can save lives. And what would we do with those aborted fetuses anyway?
--Posted by goodgoddamn300

yep
it could help!

I know that some people don't agree but...
even though it's little babies that have the stem cells removed-they can't use them because they're not alive. I mean, people who are alive and need stem cells obviously need them more than the dead.

yes
I agree with it...think of all the diseases we could cure? how many lives would be saved? people say it's not working...but they are researching it...and i believe they will get it right..i admire all the scientists who are taking the time... -Laura

They throw the unsused cells away, so why not? I'm a Christian, but seriously, it's a lot better to cure disease than to let the cells be considered "biological waste."

Completely awesome!
Stem cell research is an important part of medical research and it could be the cure for many things in the near future. I wrote a paper on it about two weeks ago, actually. Scientists are getting close to finding a cure for certain heart diseases and Parkinson's. If someone donates their embryos, I don't see an issue with it. In fact, there is no real issue in even using in-vetro fertalization for research either. The issue lies in how far scientists will take it.

I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some people might not approve stem cell research but i say...Why Not!! Its going to find treatments for everything(hopefully)and its putting a good use to unused cells anyways

if it can help people
If it can improve people's lives, then it's worth it.

its saves people
it saved my unkle from bone cansure!

It Can Change The World
Stem cell research can end unsuccessful treatment to so many diseases. It's one of the safest things scientists can you and it doesn't really exploit the environment. A lot of people think it has to do with abortion but that's not true-stem cells are in a baby's umbilical cord. Anyone against stem cell research is an enemy to mankind because they're against progress.

I think it's a great thing and that person who said on the dis that it hasnt been working is totally wrong. They have made a ton of progress.

I don't think so
Stem cell reasearch may be somthing that can help us as far as diseases go, so thats a very good thing. But the fact that it is basicly being done on a human doesn't seem right to me.
--Posted by peachooo

Its not working
They have barely made any progres finding cures with stem celll research in the so many decdes that they've been working on tave his. and scientists have also proven that they can get the same cells from embellical cord blood so they dont need to be making 'ebryos' and then taking them apart.

Cloning + Murder = bad.
Not all, but MOST stem cell research involves the cloning of a human embryo (fertilized egg) and then the immediate killing of that clone. It depends on whether or not you believe that a fertilized egg is already a person, but I think that life begins at conception so I'm against it. Here's a good source on the morality of the topic. www religioustolerance org/res_emb.htm
--Posted by lemonadelemonade

Ok, when most people say stem cell research, they mean the embryonic kind. I'm not even going to go into the whole moral issue about it. All I'm gonna say is that the embryonic stem cell research isn't going anywhere. I don't know where people hear that its made progress, cause it just simply hasn't. (There is another source of stem cells that has gotten a little progress, but I don't know any of the details of it, so I'm not gonna get into that.)

POOR BABIES
Stem cell reasearch would be great, but they tend to get the stem cells from aborted babies.even though they have had more luck with stem cells from adults.

Not a huge fan..
but i'm not an expert on the subject if you feel strongly about it go ahead and tell me exactly what it's all about

To the Dig It people
Did you know that stem cell research hasn't had one successful test...ever. On the other hand, taking the cells of the umbilical cord have shown amazing results and progress to help stop dieseases like lukemia and diabetes. Better yet, it doesn't kill innocent lives. Cause the stem cell come from HUMAN embryos, meaning little babies are being killed to be used as research that HASN'T been at all successfull. It just isn't right. Those embryos ARE living people, they have a soul. And they will never get the fighting chance of living.
--Posted by laxiebear

To the girl that said 'its better than testing on animals' Are you kidding???? You're talking about testing on a HUMAN fetus. How could you compare a human to an animal. Im sorry, but when it comes down to humans and animals, humans win in importance and should never be tested on. ever.
--Posted by ldc4389

Not for it when used with fetus stem cells.
I may be pro-choice, but stem cell research on fetuses is a waste of money. Using adult stem cells has acually HELPED treat some illnesses, so that is what I support in stem cells. Though, their is this new skin stuff made for burn victims from fetus stem cells, but it has a high rejection rate.
