do you think this psa will have an effect on how people use the word "gay"?
a video psa from Communication Arts High School, Texas.
People use the word "gay" pretty often...more often than not to mean "stupid" or "lame." But "gay" also describes a community of millions of people. Is this casual use of the word offensive? Do you use it? Can you imagine people saying "That's so Asian? White? Black?" in the same way? Would that be offensive?

Inanimate objects can't be gay.
I'm tired of people calling things that never had, have, or ever will have a sexual orientation, gay. I'm queer, and when you're like "these shoes my grandma bought me are so gay." I get annoyed. First of all. Shoes can't be gay. So what are you saying? Your shoes are attracted to other shoes? I don't understand. Second of all haven't you ever heard that saying "I use to cry cause I had no shoes, until I saw a man who had no feet." At least you have shoes. So just wear your homosexual shoes, and be quiet, you strange strange people. Gay doesn't mean stupid, so using it that way just makes you sound stupid. It's like using the word "ignorant" in a conversation wrong, people are going to think you're ridiculous. Next time someone says "That's so gay." I might just reply "No. That's so (person saying 'thats so gay's name)." It would be a lot more accurate. Except I probably won't say that, because I'm not mean, but I'll be thinking it. Trying to stop

people need to stop using the word.
its a really stupid word. when i hear it from my friends i usually hit them or tell them not to use it. to me "gay" means that you are a homosexual. when people use it as stupid or dumb, it makes me think that you are calling gay people dumb. i think the word should stop being used as stupid or dumb. how did we even get "gay" to mean stupid or dumb? seriously, i'd like to know. its just flat out, we need to stop using the word. we call objects that really don't have personal characteristics "gay". how can they be gay? the object doesn't even talk or move. how can you look at a chair and call it gay? it really makes me mad when people call other people gay. especially if you don't know the person. how can you call someone you don't even know gay? i never could use the word "gay" as stupid or dumb. i could never bring myself to say that word. when people say that they support homosexuals and then they turn around and use the word in place for stupid, its almost like how can you say that you support gays and then use the same exact word in place for stupid? its all i want to know. --Posted by tink725 04:10PM EST 06/08/08

Okay well there is this song I know that I absouletly abore. It's by Fall Out Boy and it's called, "Gay is not a synonym for Sh!tty"So when I'm speaking and I want to say,"I hate this class, it's so gay" I try to think of that song so instead I'll say, "I hate this class. I hate when people use words incorrrectly...
Especially this one. I'm a complete supporter of gay rights and gay marriage, and for some reason, people think that makes me gay. What's up with that? You can be a football fan, that doesn't make you a football player.
I think this video can increase awareness, but I've already seen that you can't change people (or their opinions) in an effective manner.
When I talk to a person against gay marriage, they either give me a religious reason, or they think it's wrong/gross/stupid etc. Neither of those answers are legitimate.

It's not a problem to be gay. That's like saying it's a problem to be black, or to be white, or to be from Maine, or to be from Canada. That's complete prejudice right there.
