New York Times "It addresses virtually everything a young woman might want to know about herself, and
herself in relation to others."
Publishers Weekly "In a frank, nonjudgmental tone, they discuss topics and details that more
conservative guides might skip...In addition to the authors' valuable
commentary, a good deal of the text is made up of outtakes from girls'
online dialogues culled from the site, revealing a thoughtful and
supportive cybercommunity."
Chicago Tribune "...this is a hip, hands-on resource for teenage
girls. It is packed with material that really informs, not just tells girls what to do or how to behave."
Toronto Star "...outlining
everything anybody needs to know about being female, [it] approaches a
wide spectrum of subjects with an astounding amount of honesty
and humour."
New York Magazine "This is an Our Bodies Ourselves for teenagers--minus the 100
percent-cotton politics..."
TALK magazine "Creators Esther Drill, Heather McDonald, and Rebecca Odes have compiled a user's manual for young women that...includes core information, commentary drawn from the website, and additional pertinent resources."
Amazon.com "...the gURLs have got everything covered --with frankness, humor and style
frustratingly absent from the majority of similarly themed books."
Library Journal "This sumptuously colorful and solid puberty guide for girls gets high marks
for comprehensiveness and attention to detail...The main messages concern
accepting diversity in bodies and lifestyles, taking responsibility, and
finding help when you need it."
"DEAL WITH IT where have you been all my life? This gift-of-a-book helps girls deal with a huge range of issues, in a smart, honest, informative, colorful, comforting and loving way." - FRANCESCA LIA BLOCK, author of the Weetzie Bat books and Girl Goddess #9
"I wish this book could have been found in a bookstore as I was struggling to come to terms with approaching adulthood. A great manual to consult whenever you need confirmation that you're not half as weird and scary as your friends and family think you are." - SHIRLEY MANSON, lead singer of Garbage
I'm a step mom of a teen girl and I am so
delighted to be able to give her such a helpful and informative tool. It is a
must-have handbook! I'm going to tell all my
sisters, sisters-in-laws, nieces, girlfriends to go buy this book!
hi, i'm eighteen years old. today, i purchased "deal
with it" because i saw it was from gurl.com. and i have e-mail and a webpage
up with gurl.com. i have been reading it and i love it! even though i am
eighteen, there's plenty of stuff i am learning from it, and i just wish that
i had this book when i was growing up. way to go! it's a great find, i'm
going to write a great review for it in the paper zine that i write.
I just recently saw your book, Deal With It, in bookstores. It caught my
eye and I thumbed through it. I must say it is the best book I have seen
that deals with the teenage girl and her life. I have already used it to
help with some issues in my life and it was perfect. It answered any
questions I had on anything in my life. I want to commend you on this book
and hope you can make another one in the future with even more information
(if that it possible). Thanks for your time.
