Are you often moody? Are you known for being emotional and easily excitable? If so, you would make a good expressionist artist.

Expression was an art movement that distorted realist images with intense emotion. This style had its heyday in Germany during the early 1900s. With bright splashes of color, pain, torture and humiliation were some of the emotions that found their way onto canvases during this period.

Like the expressionists, you probably understand that getting in touch with your feelings means really getting in touch with your feelings. You aren't afraid to scream when you feel like you're not being heard or cry when your feelings have been hurt. On the other hand, you are probably also the first to get excited about a great new project or express joy when something fabulous happens.

Some may have a problem with these intense highs and lows, but good friends will always hang on for this wild ride...

Meet some female artists of the Expressionist movement:

  • Paula Modersohn-Becker
  • Joan Mitchell
  • Helen Frankenthaler
