  Dear Heather,

My nipples stick out through my tops and I feel really self-conscious. Is there anything I can do to stop it happening?

Hi.

Nipples get turgid and flaccid with various stimuli--from cold temps to breezes. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do to control that. But if you feel your nipples stick out more than usual and this is causing you an enormous amount of embarrassment, consider the types of bras you wear. Some bras have thicker or double-walled cups, while some are slightly padded. Either of these options may solve the problem. Next time you're out shopping, try on a few types of bras and see which ones work best.

There are also some petal or disc shaped "nipple covers" on the market that are designed just to prevent such nipple-induced embarrassment. They stick on like plastic bandages. No guarantee you'll find them comfy, but if you'd like to try them, keep your eyes out in pharmacies and some clothing or accessories stores.

So, now you now have a few things to try. Good luck with your search! And remember, everyone has different breast issues. If you need a little more convincing, check out the boob files.
