Hi.
It sounds as though you're having a very rough time, but you have no idea why.
Psychologist Natalie Humphrey, Ph.D., says such reactions are frequently caused by extreme trauma, worry or stress.
You didn't elaborate on your dream, but I'm sure there must be clues there. Perhaps there is some trauma buried in your past that is just surfacing now. Or maybe you have some deep anxiety you are trying to keep at bay but is bubbling up in your nightmares.
Recurrent nightmares can really impact your life negatively. In addition to the distress you feel about having the dreams, you may also be experiencing problems related to a lack of sleep--school, social and family difficulties.
Don't suffer needlessly. If the nightmares are still haunting you, you might need help to get to the bottom of the issue. Start with your school counselor to see if he or she can make suggestions or referrals, then visit a trained psychologist or other mental health worker, if you are able.
Take care.
