For about a week now, the area around my ovaries has been killing me. I've been having really sharp pains around my left hip area, making it hard for me to walk sometimes, and I have not had my period since July. I don't know if this is a normal thing or not?
Hi.
Crippling pain and a period that has been missing for months is not at all normal. Pain is the body's way of signaling that something is up. That combined with the fact you've stopped having your period, may be an indication that something is going amiss with your reproductive organs.
According to physician Dr. Karen Rosewater, your symptoms could have any number of causes, among them ovarian cysts or inflammation of the reproductive organs due to infection. It's unlikely, but the two symptoms you have may even be unrelated. The fact is: it's impossible to accurately pinpoint the cause without being thoroughly examined by a medical doctor.
By now, I hope that you have seen a health care provider, but if you haven't, that is what I recommend. Even if the pain has now subsided, I urge you to see your primary care physician or gynecologist right away.
