  Dear Heather,

I'm 18 years old and I'll be graduating from high school this year. I want to go to a junior college, then maybe a university. The problem is I don't know what I want to major in, and I only have a year to figure it out! How can I figure out what I want to major in?

Hi.

You are not alone in your dilemma. It is rare that freshman actually have their educational trajectory figured out in advance of college. And many who THINK they are sure often change their minds once they start college and see the seemingly infinite choices available.

That's perfectly fine. Part of the joy of the freshman year is exploring what you like and what you find interesting. The core courses and electives you take in your first year (and, in some cases, first two years); provide a "smattering" of available subjects, a smorgasbord of educational delights!

So try not to worry so much about it. Have fun exploring the subjects that interest you and you will narrow things down in time.

Take care,
heather
