In any situation, though, try not to take it personally if a person doesn't respond to your attempt to strike up a conversation. People have their moods. They may be distracted by their own preoccupations, or may simply be shy. Assuming it's about you will only add to your feeling of unworthiness and others will sense how you feel about yourself.

Try this exercise. Take a piece of paper and write down all the things that you know in your heart would make you an excellent friend. Review the list every morning before you go to school for that extra shot of confidence.
