4-3-2-1... Happy New Year! Every year at this time, my four aunts would embarrass me by hitting the streets with their pasta pots and frying pans, hitting them with wooden spoons to bang in the new year. I wish I had known how to make them these two super special noisemakers to save my cheeks from getting red.

Horn Noisemaker
Materials: Stiff poster board; strong tape (preferably silver duct tape); a long, skinny uninflated balloon; scissors; a sheet of loose-leaf paper; aluminum foil.
Instructions: 1. Cut a half circle from the poster board. The flat side of the half circle should be about 15 inches long.
2. Roll the half circle up into a cone shape.
3. Tape down the overlapping edge so that the cone holds.
4. Carefully snip off a little of the cone's tip (about half an inch).
5. Cut off the tip of the balloon and slip the balloon through the cone, leaving about an inch of the cut part hanging out the hole.
6. Roll this part of the balloon over the cone and tape it down.
7. Decorate the horn however you want. Maybe cut some fringe out of a sheet of loose-leaf paper and tape it to the big end of the cone so that it wiggles and flaps when you toot. Cover the horn with aluminum foil and blow!
