gURL grant winner Deana
Ferron started her hat business, Innova Apparel, with
her sister in the winter of 1998. The company sold its
first hats in November 2001. Innova's hats can now be
found in Hat & Cap Emporiums in New York City and will
soon be available in other stores! A note from Deana:
Here is a mini-guide on starting a clothing business,
including tips I thought would be useful for prospective
entrepreneurs. I can't tell each girl who reads this
exactly what to do to have a business but I sure hope
this can point them in the right direction.
The hardest part so far with Innova was getting money
to operate the business. So much money is required for
your business that it's very important to spend the
money wisely. The gURL grant I won was gratefully accepted,
but we are still looking for different ways to acquire
funds to expand the business.
