Fishery OfficerGraham Gordon is a fishery officer in Canada's central and Arctic regions. Fishery officers there work on prevention and restoration of fishery habitats that have been disrupted or polluted. They also prosecute individuals and companies who contaminate the habitats.
Gordon studied forestry at Lakehead University, then applied in an open competition to become a fishery officer.
"As a fishery officer, you spend as much time out in the field as possible," Gordon says.
In the winter, you'll find officers patrolling areas of high concern on snowmobiles and at court hearings.
"The most challenging part of the job is trying to adapt to each individual violator to ensure an effective and timely resolution to problems," Gordon says.
