We begin our explorations in Egypt, where the Ancient Pyramids have brought the world wonder and awe for centuries. Alongside the three pyramids in Giza is a fourth lesser known pyramid: The Food Pyramid.

This fascinating structure divides foods into similar groups based on their nutrient content and type of food. Grains, veggies and dairy products are the three largest stripes on the pyramid because our bodies need more of these foods to stay healthy, strong and loaded with energy. We need slightly smaller amounts of fruit, and even less protein. Fats and oils are the smallest stripe because we need so little.
To get a balanced meal, choose food from each major group. For example: a turkey sandwich (turkey = protein, bread = grain) with lettuce and tomatoes (veggies), a glass of milk (dairy) and a plum (fruit).
