Don't let the name fool you--people who follow the religion of Satanism don't actually worship Satan. Instead, the Judeo-Christian concept of Satan is understood on principal. In the Bible, Satan originates as an angel who rebels against God and is cast out of Heaven. To Satanists, he serves as a symbol of free will and of living life as one chooses. Other believers may also regard him as a pre-Christian entity, recalling Pagan ideas of sexuality. Rather than a deity, then, Satan is an idea that inspires believers. While some believe in the Christian concept of God and Satan, others believe in other gods or goddesses, or in none at all.
It is the individual, then, who has the power to run his or her own life. Many also believe that lusts and desires should be explored and fulfilled. Creativity is also held in high regard.
