Skidmore College is a small, friendly liberal arts college in upstate New York that is the perfect size for a student worried about feeling overwhelmed or lost at a larger university. With a student body of 2,200, the student-faculty ratio is 11 to 1, so there is plenty of attention from professors, and lively classroom discussions are almost guaranteed.
The college experience is also enriched by the fact that around 40% of students spend time studying abroad. And Skidmore's interdisciplinary approach to education assures students a broad range of perspectives.
There are 19 intercollegiate varsity sports teams at Skidmore, as well as a range of more casual teams to play on, and a wealth of opportunities to go backpacking, mountain biking or skiing nearby. The social life at Skidmore isn't bad, either. There's no Greek system, but students are never wanting for something to do between campus and off-campus activities.
The City of Saratoga, where Skidmore is located, is large enough to provide a somewhat urban feel. Downtown is less than two miles from campus. Saratoga is famed for its racetrack and natural mineral baths--which can be just the thing after a long sports practice or a difficult exam--and offers ample and affordable off-campus housing opportunities.
