douche mania
What sounds crazier than squirting bleach inside your vagina? Um, nothing? Yeah, that's what we think. Yet people keep thinking this is a good idea. Vaginal irrigation, or douching, in one form or another has been around forever--or at least since the beginning of recorded history.
In the early 1900s, a weak bleach-based douching liquid called Zonite was advertised to not only cleanse a menstruating woman, but also to serve as a contraceptive. Today, douching products are still sold in drug stores, however doctors warn that injecting cleansing fluids into a healthy vagina can disrupt its natural chemical balance and lead to irritation and disease.
