This picture is actually showing two tattoos. The first one is the one in the middle. It's a chicana, or a southern cross. I went to Peru a while back. I loved the chicana design I found there, especially its meaning. The spiral is the representation of endless time. The corners represent water, sun, universe and earth.

The second tattoo is a memorial. I got in a bus accident in '06. It had a huge effect on me and it took me a long time to bounce back from it. The crash taught me that we only have so much time to live and I wanted to remember that.

The words in the tattoo design are: "Are we, we are the waiting unknown." These are Green Day lyrics from "Are We The Waiting." The date is when the bus accident happened. The butterflies were my friend's idea, and my mom loved the addition. They represent the way I was able to overcome the accident and also become inspired and uplifted. It shows that I actually learned a great lesson from the bus crash.
